Question HSV after Zeta

Hey guys- thought since there's so much mystery about this subject, I should put together a speculative thread about HSV post 2018.

HSV are definitely continuing after VF- they have confirmed this, but it's hard to imagine what with or how much resources they'll have.

I read on another forum HSV might be preparing a V8 Colorado, as GM US are preparing a V8 Canyon for 2018 MY but I went on GM US forums and nobody corroborated that. Wheels seems to think HSV will bring out a Colorado with suspension work, body kit and warmed over Duramax.

I'm guessing there'll be an OPC/VXR Astra to source from Europe again so not much point going it alone there.

Commodore, Hmm that's a toughie. A V8 won't fit, turbo won't fit so I can only think LGX with positive displacement supercharger. With enough boost, over 300kw would be easily possible but without the LS note. Then the potential for export is opened up again.

Then that brings the driveline into question, unless they replace the 9-speed with a DCT- which would bring performance down to current Clubsport territory anyhow.
One plus with it being the Insignia is access to Irmscher etc for parts like HDT did with early Commodores for rims etc.

What would be nice is if they use carbon fibre parts from Quickstep, Futuris and Carbon Revolution and other Australian components to give some suppliers a stay of execution. One idea I had was an IRS module for the Colorado to make a Maloo successor but that's probably a bit farfetched.

Walkinshaw seems pretty cashed up with all they're doing, so I am not so concerned they won't have the money to do anything interesting, it's just all so up in the air I can't wait to hear more about what they have to offer.

All jokes aside, we know they're continuing what do you expect/ have you heard? Anything juicy?

Probably do something like Tickford is now. Modify a few different cars in the range. I doubt it will be anything major.

By the things I've heard from Holden dealers it is pretty much over. there will be a couple of things done to commodore and the Colorado but not much else. why do you think Holden moved their money from HRT? It was moved so the association with HSV is broken. Holden know the product they have coming is controlled by Opel and they cant do much at all, its not their product.

No V8, no rwd, no manual HSV will fade out in 3-5 years. just my 2c worth.

HSV has been a one trick pony in the market place for so long and have failed miserably whenever they’ve tried to deviate from V8 powered vehicles.

It’s been a niche brand with a strong following because of its upmarket V8’s and it’ll suffer far more than say Holden will with its change to the Euro Commodore.

Its core supporters are unlikely to be interested in anything that doesn’t incorporate a GM V8 power plant in a family sedan or coupe and it’s unlikely it would produce a lot of interest in new customers with something lesser just because it has a HSV badge.

It doesn’t even have the luxury of a RHD version of the GM hero cars like Ford has with the Mustang and if they were to import and convert cars the price would kill many of their current customer base.

Unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat I see a quick death for them in the performance car market.

With local resources (ie Harrop) surely they could do a "TRD Aurion" job on the Opel AWD V6 underpinnings?
Perhaps have a sniff around there for any rumours.

I'm sure the aftermarket will be offering bolt-on turbo kits like they did almost as soon as the Toyota 86 was released, and both supposedly have an engine bay that's too tight for an OEM turbo.....

re-engineer the new commo to RWD and shoe horn a LS3 in it, charge $120k for it, and i bet they would still sell them.

I'm picking their gonna import camaro and rhd it. Don't they already do trucks?

Outsource it to a Thai factory and they probably won't be much more expensive than mustang.

- Start a range of aftermarket performance packages for older models (step on a few well-established toes, but would be a good source of income).
- Approach the police and taxi/private driver industry to offer refurbishing of Commodores and Caprices to keep them going (like Crown Vics in North America).
- Develop new performance models from new models (most likely).
- Import and convert small quantity GM performance and SUV/utility models.

Most HOLDEN/HSV loyalists would rather be riding in a Hyundai than sit in a Ford. And tradies seem to be pretty cashed up these days. I'd say give them what they want. Looking forward to the HDT and Walkingforsure special sticker packs and bodykits.

HSV is a 5hit company and the new Commodore shouldn't be called a Commodore coz its not a RWD V8.

100 percent true. remember the LPG GTS that came out about 2010. Lasted 5 seconds. They are going to struggle.

Don't laugh ..... I would seriously interested in that HSV Hyundai AWD coupe / ute thingy, if they sold it it Oz, but indications are that it will be built in the YouEss of Ehh, LHD only.

Holden came out and said they don't care about the enthusiest.

Hsv will struggle because their usual clientele don't want anything besides what they been selling. Anything without a v8 failed with the hat badge....god forbid it's not derived from a commodore.

I thought HSV just sold caps, shirts, jackets, etc?

Usually when I see someone decked out in all that they aren't driving any form of RWD, V8 performance vehicle ..
