Usually see 5-6 Mustangs on my daily commute to work. I don't see as many FGXs as I do Mustangs per day. They had 6000 orders before the car even came to Australia, and sales are still going strong, what did people think was going to happen ?

As a package the Mustang is a pretty good vehicle.
It's obviously a couple of generations newer than the Falcon in tech, and it's a relative bargain for what it it, a "sport" coupe.
The 2 star safety rating needs to be assessed for what it is, I'm not sure an FGX would fair any better under the same 2017 test.
Having no kids to haul around I can drive and own almost any car and it will meet my practical needs, but now owning a Mustang (an Ecoboost at that) after having owned several VE/VF Commodores, HSVs and FGs in recent years as a baseline I think they are a damn good unit, especially for the money.
I am still amazed the reaction they get from the general public, I've owned more expensive cars than this one, but it's almost embarrassing how people react to the Mustang.

"What's it got over a Falcon"? Depends what you want from a car, I like tech, the Falcon isn't in the same era with tech. I'm still amazed with how the Mustang handles, coming out of corners it still amazes me how it hunkers down and gets out of the corner. The Ecoboost surprises for what it is, under 6s 0-100 and I can get 7.5l/100kms. Even sounds pretty good in the right circumstance (but no V8 for sure).
But I still love my Falcons, I've bought many new and used ones over the years and still hate that they are not still being made.

Guy across the road from us (Mittagong) has a new Mustang.
There's 3 other Mustangs that I see in Moss Vale every day in the course of my work.
Only ever see 1 FGX XR8 in this area. A blue one in Bowral. Guy who owns it uses it as a daily to his work in Shellharbour.

There is a percentage of ford fans that just can't be happy that ford are achieving success outside of the Falcon brand...that seems to be the major issue.

Guess I'll better be prepared for eye rolling if i get a Mondeo wagon...*sigh*

I did it this morning as one rolled into work. Without even thinking about it.

Just because I am a Ford enthusiast doesn't mean I automatically have to adore every model of Ford.

Mazda Demio in Japan, is Mazda 2 in Oz,

Holden Commodore in Oz was known as the Pontiac G8 / Chevrolet SS in the US,

Oh, from the Ford stable,

Ford Fusion in USA is Ford Mondeo in Oz.

It's called marketing. If Ford wanted to call it something else for the local market, they could have. Thats why it would be called something else.

You make a lot of good points.
The 'Coon is/was probably a far better car for our conditions.

However, my love for the 'Stang, is the fact that it does only have 2 doors. 2 doors FTW. 2 doors rock.
And, it is a far far far better looking car than any current Falcon could ever hope to be, IMO.

I see the 'Stang as a hero car, not a practical car, so it doesn't have to be as good as the 'Coon, but it damn better look cool, and it does.

I don't even care it it's not as quick as the 'Coon, 'cos it's quick enough...

Interestingly too...when the Commodore grinds to a halt...there are 2 choices for a (non suv/ute) V8 powered car under 100 grand...


Will existing V8 Commodore owners shift to the Mustang or 300c?
