I know its not the most technical or difficult solo, but the into to Thunderstruck, ecspecially when you see Angus play it on a live DVD. I love it

relly you can't go past Mike Oldfield of Tubular Bells Fame. One of my favorites is from the Shadows (60's) Wonderfull Land.

two of my favourites, probably will tell you too much about me, but they are
the theme from the thunderbirds (original series with real puppets..not people) and Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries
they both will add to your listening pleasure

By far the best instrumental guitar I have heard... It rocks !

AC/DC

P.s. anyone who listens hard will realise that most of AC/DC's rythym section is simple chords, , but masterfully written and played. They have been playing 5 chords in different array for 30 years, and still do it great !

Jeez people he said instrumentals. That means no singing :P

Dream theatre have a few good ones. They also have a side project called "liquid tension experiment" that is just instrumentals. Have a look at them. Theyre brilliant. "Ytse jam" is a really good one.

Metallica's "to live is to die" is another good one.

I used to have heaps but they all went bye bye when we got a new computer.

If you like Metallica you HAVE to check out Apocolyptica. They play a heap of Metallica song on cellos. Very Very well done and some a quite haunting. Especially when driving along in the middle of no where on a dark evening with rain setting in.

Surfing with the Alien, Joe Satriani
Cryin', Joe Satriani
The Audience Is Listening, Steve Vai
Lenny, Stevie Ray Vaughan
Orion, Metallica

Some of the best guitar playing you'll hear, bar none. Absolute virtuosity and great sonds also

You have great taste in music! And, yes, A Change of Seasons is friggin' brilliant! Also, where did you get Suspended Animation? I can't find it anywhere.

Some of my favourite instrumental songs;
Dream Theater - Stream of Consciousness
Joe Satriani - Surfing with the Alien
Steve Vai - Erotic Nightmares

Anyone that's into this sort of music, I recommend the latest G3 DVD/CD Live in Tokyo. Vai, Satriani and Petrucci It doesn't get much better than that.

There are a few instrumentals that Cliff Burton plays on a Metallica dvd I have called Cliff 'em All, and I honestly have no idea how he makes that bass sound like it does.

Another one that springs to mind is ' Going Home ' by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame.
Opeth have a couple but can't remember the names off the top of my head.

Most of Led Zepp's songs - Page rocks!

Then you get Jeff Beck, Deep Purple, Van Halen, The who, Steve Vai, list goes on.

Nothing will ever beat the instumental of 'One' by Metallica.

I wouldn't expect that it would be available in shops. Perhaps ordering it off Petrucci's website, or obviously, 'the internet is your friend'...

oooh yes... awesome.

With Dreamtheater material, they have many great pieces within their songs that could be brilliant instrumentals in their own right.
