HSV has released its new post-commodore line up. Colorado appears to be their only modified product, the others look like direct RHD conversions.

I have read a few article about the Camaro. They put it on a diet and it seems to have paid off in performance and looks.
On the downside, it gives up even more leg room than Mustang, rendering the back seats even less able to seat anyone. In reality I don't see that as too much of a downside. I never had anyone sit in the back of my Mustangs. What does hurt is the capacity in the boot is even smaller than the previous gen. At least my Mustangs had some useful trunk space. When you combine the space in the back seat area with that of the boot, you get more total available space. i have seen a few head to head comparisons of the 2017s and the subjective ratings tended to favor the Mustang. Performance between the 2 was pretty close. |

I was thrilled to see the Camaro but once I started reading it looks as though it is auto only..booo.booo
I also went looking for engine mods on the Colorado but nothing to be found there either. At least the Silverado has 1200nm and an Allison transmission. |

Ok, HSV only mentions an 8 speed auto but this Carsales article says there will be a 6 speed manual also:

As reported exclusively by motoring.com.au in July, the 2018 Camaro will be imported and converted to right-hand drive by Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) at its Clayton facility in Melbourne, starting next July. Joining the Silverado pick-up in Chevrolet outlets alongside HSV and Holden dealers, it will be offered as a single V8 coupe variant based on North America’s better-equipped 2SS spec and powered by GM’s circa-340kW/615Nm 6.2-litre GenV LT1 V8. There will be no convertible, nor the top-shelf Camaro ZL1 powered a supercharged 485kW LT4 V8, which can hit 60mph (97km/h) in a claimed 3.5 seconds with optional 10-speed auto. A six-speed manual transmission is expected to be available from launch alongside an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. Chevrolet claims the Camaro SS auto coupe can hit 60mph in 4sec flat (4.3 for the manual). Standard equipment will be extensive, including Performance suspension, four-piston Brembo front and rear performance brakes with fixed callipers and 20-inch five-split-spoke alloy wheels -- 8.5 inches wide up front and 9.5-inch at rear -- wrapped in 245/40 ZR20 front and 275/35 ZR20 rear Goodyear Eagle tyres. Also standard are High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, LED Daytime Running Lamps, rear stanchion spoiler and dual-outlet exhaust Inside, there’s a leather-wrapped, flat-bottom sports steering wheel, power-adjustable heated, ventilated and leather-trimmed front sports bucket seats, dual-zone climate control, nine-speaker Bose premium audio, 24-colour interior spectrum lighting, head-up display, Drive Mode Selector and Enhanced Driver Information Centre. The bad news is pricing is still to be confirmed but is expected to start close to $80,000. That will make HSV’s Camaro SS cheaper than versions already offered in Australia by a number of local converters, but about $20K pricier than its most direct rival, Ford’s Mustang GT Fastback (from $57,490). And you’ll have to be quick to avoid a long wait, with the HSV factory expected to have limited initial production capacity until 2019 and demand likely to outstrip supply. “For 2018 we will be capacity constrained,” said HSV managing director Tim Jackson. “[Production] Ramp up on conversions is slower and will be cautious to ensure quality.” Jackson said demand is expected to be strong, primarily from traditional large V8 sedan buyers but also Chevrolet and Camaro fans, and that when it comes to waiting lists, “all we can do is manage expectations”. The HSV boss admitted the success of Mustang — which has found more than 8700 buyers so far this year, to become Australia’s top-selling sports car and Ford’s second best seller after the Ranger — “shows there’s space for another competitor in that space”. “The business case is conservative but works at 1000 a year,” he said, adding that no exports are parts of the plan apart from New Zealand. “I believe we’ll keep a big chunk of our [HSV] customers. [But] We probably won’t keep all of them.” |

An aftermarket RHD conversion .... would hate to see the final cost on that ... Mustang will look really cheap compared to these. The Camaro will probably end up well above $80K after all this conversion is done.

They will not be able to meet the Mustang on price... sure.
But at least another rwd muscle car will be available for the cashed up. Cannot be a bad thing. Looks pretty cool. |

I can't see the Camaro coming under $100k; $50k to buy it, $5k to ship it, $40k to convert... and then every one in the chain has to make their profit.

I wonder if the price will be a little lower than expected. If they're working with GM, perhaps the purchase comes at a discounted rate.
Would still prefer the Mustang though. Well, until the Challenger is an option. Silverardos will be popular with the grey nomad set. Have seen a few big american utes pulling massive caravans. |

The 2018 Mustang will be faster and a hell of a lot cheaper. You would have to have rocks in your head to pay another 25-30k to buy a Camaro.
How long till Holden get's ditched for Chevrolet? |

It looks great in black. So 1000 base units to get their feet wet and to keep the price as low as possible for the incoming RHD's - makes sense to me even if they're over-priced.
The new 755 hp Corvette ZR1 is about 120k usd, imagine the price of that here. |

Thinking logically here, the possible Camaro import will be the SS2 (premium trim) which currently costs
around USD$45K before you add auto, so that's AUS$60K before delivery to Australia and conversion to RHD. They also need to add the cost of crash testing at least two of the cars, so there's another $1 Million to amortize. Given how much sales of Mustang and Camaro have slowed up in the US, you'd think that it would be a lot cheaper to just do the RHDs at the factory...Maybe Holden can't get that business plan to fly.. |

Holden are really on a self destruct mission.
Questions to be raised are, Why doesn't HSV want to touch the 'new' Commodore with a barge pole? What would happen to resale values of these vehicles, if Factory RHD became available? SportsCat.....was that the best name HSV could come up with? Chevrolet name over Holden. It has to be but it really diminishes Holdens relevance further.

Holden and therefore HSV died when Commodore ended production as far as I'm concerned.
I'd wait until they bring in factory RHD models. I don't hate on those cashed up enough to get into one before then though. |
