Question 4 hour supercar drive - help!

Hi,

Wifey surprised me with one of these supercar drive days, and I got pumped!

Reading the "fine print" though, you need to stump up $2000 upfront on a credit card as a bond, and you risk up to an additional $15000 if you bingle the car and it's your fault. So basically no insurance as such?

That scares the bejesus outta me, potentially being out of pocket to the tune of $17,000!

I'm presuming these companies don't let you go nuts in the cars, but still a concern. Wife thinks I'm being stupid, and maybe I am...just worried.

Thoughts?

Be the wet blanket that takes it easy and build confidence from there. Let the hot heads blow their deposits. You can still have a good time not being ultra competitive. Afterwards you can still say youve driven a v8 supercar.

No way would I come at that risk. It’s a grossly misrepresented offer.

It's insured it's just the excess for the owner of the car I imagine, it wouldn't be cheap having multiples of 6 figures in cover for a vehicle anyone can drive.

My insurance for coverage on someone else's car up to the value of $125,000 was over $7000.

Yep you will be scared ****less and be super extra careful, drive to places where there are no other cars, drive 100mtrs behind the car in front. And through all that you will love it and although not yours you will be able to say you have driven a Ferrari or whatever and see how green your mates turn then. Just do it.

Read the fine print last night...

No insurance and maximum of $15,000 provided you were behaving...but that's a grey area as it's your word against theirs and also you loose the $2000 deposit as well.

Not risking that kinda money, no matter how exotic the car is...

I'm scared enough with a Hertz rental these days with one particularly dodgy transaction at Melbourne airport a year or so back....I'd personally steer clear.

To test drive a Ferrari? Id be betting you would stump up for a fat bond & need a lawyer to go over the fineprint there too.

Bit counterproductive if you ask me, it could encourage people to have a monumental prang just so they get value - bang for the buck literally.

If its through Adrenaline, IMO more fun to drive a V8 hard on a track than to baby a supercar.

Yeh Adrenaline one and it was on the street, and I can play with Mustangs at work so booking was a little wasted on me. Not a Lambo etc but I'm not fussed eh.

The fishing trip looks good!

I did it several years ago. There is a write up on here as well.

Back then it was $10k for bond.

Best money ever spent.
