A rusty Falcon coupe will sell for almost the same price as the recent high-profile Kingswood coupe that sold.

$300,000 reached and 75 hours to go. Will get close to half a million dollars.

Also, what happens if the winning bid is a fake? Does it go down to next in line?

[QUOTE=BA-XT;6470425] Hypothetically, so you think we'll se the FG GT's and HSV GTS models take off in 30-40 years time like this? I'll be late sixties by then.

Hello - I am bidding on this car and would like to ask members on this forum what you suggest out of the following;
Restore car to original (full car restoration) or Rust repairs, get running and interior cleanup (no major paint work) All the best and thanks for inputs. |

Take away the nostalgia of this car and it's history. What's an XA GT hardtop actually worth fully restored? What's one worth in original unrestored but good condition? This price seems insane for what it is.

And I haven't quite worked out what the history or nostalgia is. It sat for 30 years in a lean-to on a dirt floor owned by a guy who was "going to restore it himself and it's not for sale"
Is there something else special about it?

But once the dirt is washed away what will you really own though? The car had a certain mystique when it was in the chook shed. Not sure that will continue to attach. |

To me, not a single thing is special about it at all, all I see is a neglected GT. I wouldn't even call it a survivor either, it hasn't been upkept and is full of rust, hardly the definition of "survivor". Would be a very expensive restoration.

The colour and spec are awesome, honestly who ever gets it must be coming from a labour of love perspective because to me it doesnt make business sense.
Id soon find a minter and enjoy, but if the money is not a big deal situations like this dont come along often.

This would be an emotional decision not an investment one.

Since when are cars bought by a true enthusiast as an investment? I have always said about my cars, "It doesn't have to make sense." Personally, I don't see the value in it at all - I thought it would go for about $120,000. To the right person though, they may spend $300,000+ but it will be priceless to them. Quote:
T Mac, if you win the auction, you do whatever you want to it that makes you feel good. Don't worry about what everyone else's opinions are - they aren't the ones that are laying down 300 big ones. All that I ask is that you create a build thread on AFF so that we can all share in this great piece of history. |

Ditto, but, I have bought cars knowing I would use them as a daily for a few years and then move on because;
1) I seem to always want something else after ~2 years 2) I want to minimize change over losses So, for the most part I "break even" when I have sold my last couple of cars based purely from making sure I buy a car that would be in demand The exception to this has been the Mitsu we have, that was 100% for family duties where prior it was my daily but a work car for the past 6 years means I dont have that worry at the moment. But when I no longer have a work car id do the same. An enthusiast that buys and sells is still an enthusiast IMO.
