Digging through my old photos and scanning them, this is from my coastal cargo days up the Buckingham River NT on the Landing Barge Gulf Sky, delivering freight to the Aboriginal community of Lake Evella (Gapuwiyak) about 540km East of Darwin. The red barge (Coral Bay) is the opposition from the now defunct Perkins Shipping NT, she beat us to the ramp that day....

From my trip to New Zealand's South Island at the end of 2016 -
Queenstown, new years eve - And the very hard driven Corolla that was our transport. Would love to drive those roads in something a bit more exciting one day.

hmm sort of hate the place, every time I return home to visit family, I usually spend 3 or 4 days with them the off to the bush, the mountains, the bush walking.
I am not ashamed to admit but at the age of 70 I still cry when I leave the country. Dont bother trying to talk with me on a flight back to Aus. Spent first 27 years of my life, from the age of 4 we were off somewhere every school holidays, never just ;visited' rather we always stayed and got to know a place. Smile to myself when I hear Aussies say visited NZ recently, yeah spent 3 weeks and saw the whole country. what carrp I spent 27 years and still never saw the whole place. sorry being nostalgic

Was interesting what Tonz said about tourists “seeing “ the whole country in 3 weeks. We get same sort of expectations here, especially W.A $ QLD ers who after doing a boring 1000km drive in their home state come for 2-3 weeks and find that they can only see about 20% of the state,so they come back a second time for 3-4 months to see everything they missed first time

Citroenbender,
been there several times, first time went on the ferry, as we are coming into port , dear wifey says what the hells the matter with you? At that stage I had been away from NZ 2.5 years and homesick as F....poor girl got a blubbering lecture. If I didnt have daughters in Adel and 11 grandkids we would be back in NZ.

naw cobba, this bl**dy land mass we sit on is the third Isl of New Zealand.
and that can be proved by fissures in the land where archaeologists can PROOVE the mountain range up our east coast is the same as up New Zealand spine. Big difference is NZs spine holds the country together, the one we have seems to separate this nation. enough lets get back to pics.

Went down to my cousins farm near Wagin in WA to help with seeding, got to drive this bad boy.
Also got to drive his new pick up, nice truck, very smooth, handled the rough back roads and gravel nicely. We had about 400 kilos of herbicide in the back which probably helped the ride.

Spoilt for choice there rocKWiz.
When I was a kid on school holidays, used to go to my Grandparents farm and do rock picking. It just meant picking up rocks in the paddock and chucking the the back of the FC ute so the ploughs didn't get damaged. Fun,not.

Interesting coincidence, as death creeps closer we are reviewing funeral etc details for my father. Apparently he wanted cremation and his ashes scattered at Rakaia Gorge.
(Tonz and I are probably distantly related… ) |
