Default Ford Mustang Production Will Officially Halt

Quote:
Ford Mustang Production Will Officially Halt

And this problem goes far beyond just the pony car…
Ford will be shutting down production of the Mustang May 3-7 with a plan to resume assembling the pony car afterward. While that’s the plan, the outlook for the Mustang and other models, both from Ford and other automakers, doesn’t look exactly rosy. The reason for this production shutdown is simple: there aren’t enough semiconductor chips to power all that flashy technology in new cars.

Learn more about the upcoming Ford Mustang sedan here.
We’ve seen this problem for months now, with GM having to cease production of different vehicles, most notably the Chevy Camaro. Fiat Chrysler (now part of Stellantis) has had to shut down the assembly lines for the Dodge Charger and Challenger as well as the Chrysler 300.

This problem has affected many other automakers, ranging from Toyota to Nissan, Daimler to Porsche. Industry analysts predict the chip shortages will limit the production of cars in the near term, but thankfully the problem will go away after a while.

So its official now, with my impending Mustang order the dealer did tell me that production was at the point where it may need to shut down for a period of time.... Who knows when I'll get a car...lol

It's going to be an issue till at least the start of the 4th quarter. Things should start to improve from there as more semi-conductor supplies come on line.

It is what it is. Nearly all other manufacturers across the globe are dealing with the same problem. Many have been having plant shutdowns due to it. That's why waiting lists for some vehicles have blown out past 6 months. Some are getting to the 9-12 month wait times.

Why not have a full conductor?
(Semi seems 1/2 assed to me?)

Its not just cars, anything that needs a computer chip is being held up.
and we all know what's been happening with the 2nd hand market.

If you have 3 year old a low km car you might soon be able to sell it for the price you paid for it, if not a profit.

I heard car dealers have been calling on private sellers so they can stock their floors

I saw a YouTube video the other day where ford rented out a speedway track and filled it with f tricks that were built without the chips, basically stock piling them for when the backlog is cleared.

Worlds a funny place.

They’ll go back to 12AX7 dual triodes and massive electrolytic cans soon. Looking forward to all the rookie sparkies discovering 450VDC under the dash.

aah semiconductors...what next? Capacitor Shortage, solder shortage?

The Rise of Technology is making us more stupid every day.

Nothing can be done without a computer in some way or form this day in age.

It would have been fine if it wasn't for Covid. Semi-conductor production numbers got diverted over to home electronics not long into covid, cause they were predicting that no one would be buying cars, and being stuck at home, they would be buying electronics instead.

That came true. For about 3-6 months. Then all of the sudden, people started buying cars again, in similar numbers they were buying before. Now the semi-conductors they needed to go into vehicle production, were being used in home electronics. Panic stations.

Going to take the rest of the year before the problem starts becoming less of an issue. The US government is also pumping a heap of money into securing semi-conductor production away from china, and onto US soil. So this doesn't happen again.

Home and corporate electronic devices still have lengthy wait times. Network switches, routers, WAPs and desktop monitors have a 3 month wait time right now. It is mayhem out there.

It’s true. A mate selling his 4 year old Top of the range DMax had his car as up for half an hour before being called by a dealer who paid his asking price for it the next day because he was desperate for stock in his yard…

Yep. I know a chap who was selling his d-max. The day he listed it the dealer he brought it off rang him and made him an offer of $3000 less than he paid for it 3 years earlier, brand new.
Just madness. He took the offer and bought a new Ranger.

You're not wrong....I'm seeing prices for 3 year old VW Transporters close to $10,000 below the price of brand-new Transporters and 2021 Vito 119CDI's

https://www.caradvice.com.au/960902/...istics-delays/

Volkswagen customers in Australia are likely to experience delivery delays of key models – such as the new Golf hatch, updated Tiguan mid-size SUV, and large Touareg family SUV – caused by the global semiconductor shortage.

Other popular brands such as Hyundai, Kia and Nissan have recently notified dealers of severe stock shortages in the coming months, while market leader Toyota claims it is largely unaffected other than delays caused by a surge in demand.
