The Mitsubishi Sigma I drove when I was on my P's I crashed it twice once into a parked car the other time ran into the back of another car, thrashed the crap out of it for two years the thing didnt die

My old man had a Sigma from new, he went to England for 10 weeks and left me (18yrs old in 1987) with the keys. Bwahahahahaha

He got back and drove it the same day, he came home in a taxi. Technically i didnt kill it because the balance arms broke when he was driving it, it just took me 10 weeks of meticulous preparation to get it there. He was not happy. I dont know, no sense of humour I guess. :


The dude who mentioned Fiat 128. I had a 1978 128 3p Brinobet, thanks for reminding me of another little weapon. Theyve got an in head cam (not overhead), the valves run directly off the cam, no lifters or rockers. The cam sits on caps that are on the valves. Revvy like a rotary.

The 2lt Astron Engines were pretty good, the one I drove had 5 speed manual and rear wheel drive did some good burnouts in that thing.

as mentioned by eb5speed, the faithfull Gemini.
couple of mates had them, and I had a Bellett with a Gemini engine.

the first 1.6 engine i had in it just got smokier and smokier, so BIG, valve bouncing revs, roll backs, donuts, the works, were tried to kill it for good, so a new engine would then be a necessity, but it just kept going.
ended up changing it for another 1.6 when i realised it was costing more in oil than petrol to drive it...
when i took the Bellett off the road in 98, the engine went into a mates sister's Gemini (her first car). and guess what, it's still going strong!

the couple of other mates ones were just the same. rally driving, burnouts, one even jumped his over an aquaduct near his folks hobby farm!
but they still woudn't die.

basicly, the Gemini is TOUGH. highly recommended as a cheap, reliable first car, or a runabout so your pride and joy can live in the shed.

Gave it heaps,burnt off 4 sets of rear tyres in 3 months (I remember doing doughnuts on the rev limiter in seconed more than once).It was a great sleeper stock white with hubcaps,a 2.5 inch exhaust and an auto ecu.

Opened a lot of peoples eyes to skylines (mainly when it left them for dead),traded it on a s3 r31 sillohouette gts after 4 months of being driven like it was stolen,and only replaced the aforementioned tyres.

funny thing about the cordias
my mate bought one with over 250 thou on the clock for 3 grand

had it for a year and absolutely cained the hell out of it....it would cut out and backfire whilst under load...blow blue smoke...fart..splutter etc etc....the most amazing thing was that my mate sold it back to a dealer for the same price he payed for it.....im amazed it still went

Off topic slightly.....
Years ago we used to go to Total Performance's Chrissie party each year in Melville Rd Brunswick, where the Xmas entertainment consisted of (as well as copious amounts of beer) a Holden red motor, a 200ci Falcon motor, and a slant 6 Valiant motor. All on stands with cooling from 44 drums. Carbies were wired wide open, and bets were placed. They were all started simultaneously, until last one left running was the winner! I think the old slant 6 won most years.
(The idea was canned after a red motor conrod missed a spectator by inches on it's way through the tin back fence)

A Holden Gemini my mate had.

370,000 kays the last time I saw it (he got rid of it) and he told me that the body would rust away before the engine died. Which was true.

The only things it had wrong with it was a stuffed fuel gauge (would go from full to empty, rinse and repeat) and a tupperware reverse light.

Bought a VC Wagon for $400 as a bushbasher.

We flogged it and flogged it and it never died.

It had the blue Holden 6.

I also have a VL Berlina aswell, as a bushbasher

When I bought it, the head was cracked and all the water went into the sump, when it was time to give it a oil change, the oil was literally like glue and we were amazed the thing could still go. Whilst it hasnt been flooged as hard as the VC, it still goes very well.

The RB30s are tough old motors.

A mate had an old xa 6 cyl 250. had over 500,000 on the clock. He hadnt opened the bonnet for 3 years at last count. He used to fill it up with fuel from 44 gal drums at work until the bosses found out, so they replaced the petrol with a drum of kero. He filled her up, she coughed and spluttered and blew heaps of smoke, but kept going. So every week he just kept filling it up with kero. Havent seen him for about five years cause I left the job, but last I heard, he still has the car and apparantly still hasnt opened the bonnet and yes, it is still supposedly going.

Every Taxi in Australia.

When I was growing up, a Mate had a Farm in Golburn. On the Farm was a Ford Prefect. I drove my first manual in it, and surprisingly, it would do about 75 MPH flat out. It went pretty well, however, because it was a paddock basher, it was never taken care of. His current Paddock Basher is a VC Commodore, with the 4.2 V8. Runs on 6 Cylinders, 2 Forward gears, and last time I saw it, it had 400,000 KMs on the clock.

I treat my cars with respect. The all got regular washes and services, and they never got mistreated, so no near death experiences for me.

You guys will probably laugh but I had an old hyundai excel. It actually went quite well (apart from the puff of smoke). I took it through NSW banana plantations and through creeks in the NSW hinterland and up more than 45 degree rainforest slopes... It was really good...
