Exclamation Victoria set for another year of above average rainfall

With the recent storm and another deluge due in the next 24 hours, it makes me remember the desalination plant sitting idle in Wonthaggi. Nearly a decade since it was completed and it has only produced minimal water to prevent the plant from becoming derelict due to lack of use. Who was the scientist who claimed at the time that it was "never going to rain again"?

Wonthaggi desal plant was built to appease the green movement as they opposed dams being built.
Cost an arm and leg to build with ongoing costs to maintain a white elephant.
Waste of tax payers $$$

Wasn't that long ago we weren't allowed to water our gardens from the tap or wash our cars in the drive way. Who knows what tomorrow might bring? Weather is becoming quite unpredictable.

Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.

I’ve been told by someone with good (current) inside knowledge, the BOM management are trying to slim down local forecast and analysis crews, and import so much as they can, all in the name of short term savings.

This bothers me several ways: We are beholden to service price changes by third parties. We lose local input (the “old hands” who could tell you confidently when an apparent circumstance was going to about-face) and most importantly, we compromise our national security with the risk of either malicious misinformation or insight to strategic plays.

TLDR: Expect more rubbish forecasting.
