It can be noted that (when there is no congestion) most motorists in California drive at about 80-85 mph in "65 mph" zone freeways (about 130-136 km/hr). Californian motorists also drive at 40-45 mph in urban "35 mph" zones also without fearing penalty.
So... In Australia, would Whirlpool posting motorists be in favour of raising speed limits "the easy way" by relaxing enforcement tolerances? This would mean there would no need to change signage or officially redesign the roads for the higher speed, since it's " not allowed " (wink wink, nudge nudge). for instance, 40 km/hr zone — tolerance of 5 km/hr (so everyone could confidently drive at 45 km/hr without risk of penalty) 60 km/hr zone — tolerance of 10 km/hr 80 km/hr zone — tolerance of 15 km/hr 90 & 100 km/hr — tolerance of 20 km/hr 110 km/hr zone — tolerance of 25 km/hr (so everyone could confidently drive at 130-135 km/hr without risk of penalty) Would motorists generally be in favour of this? |
