For those of you not from Melbourne and aware of the reference, you have to wait a bit longer before you start celebrating, I'm still alive

The good lord has called up his best furniture salesman for the grand opening of his baroque furniture store in the sky

Might be time to turn into Ken Bruce, or maybe Nick Scali

Iconic Melbourne furniture salesman Franco Cozzo dies

Melbourne icon Franco Cozzo, a furniture salesman whose TV advertisements became ingrained in the city’s popular culture, has died. He was 87.

The Italian-Australian businessman’s death was announced on his social media account on Wednesday afternoon.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Franco Cozzo,” the post read.

“He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. We would greatly appreciate that our privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

A family member also confirmed his death to The Age.

I drive past his Footascray shop at least 20 times a year have done so for more than three decades. It has been in a sad state for more than a decade until it's recent closure. We who remember the 1980s will always remember the little guy who was not scared to speak wog on national television.

Riposa in pace, Franco.

It's turning into a brewery and they're going to keep the original facade I believe,

He was a larger than life figure, who was always in his shops and in the local area regardless of the huge demographic shifts.

The documentary about his life is a great watch - Palazzo Di Cozzo

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt11469884/

It's basically the typical migrant success story, but there's a very sad element to it too.

That furniture though my lord I can't believe people actually bought it

I am banned from The Bar, so nowhere else to post, plus the poster who calls himself Franco Cozzo posts here a lot

The thread does belong in The Bar, however . . . . . . . . .

The thread does belong in The Bar, however . . . . . . . . .

It is now posted in the pub area and not the bar area as it should be, so Trev (the thread creator) and Franco (the subject of the ridicule) can continue contributing to the thread.

Growing up in WA, I'm not really familiar with the esteemed Franco. RIP.

We had Luigi Sava-Da-Moni on the WA Salvage ads, legend.

That's why I clarified straight away, it's been a disaster for AFF members in the past few years we've lost heaps of them and I didn't want any unnecessary worrying about me,

The good die young, so I'll be around for a very long time

With the real Franco's death he signifies the passing of the post WWII European migration, in that documentary at one point he asks himself where all his Italians are, and then quips that they're all in the cemetary - he wasn't far behind.

That's another furniture chain that always runs similar ads on TV, not like Franco Cozzo's ridiculous ads but they always run with the same theme, it's always a woman sitting on a couch

yep typical w og ways to marketing and so funny it hasn't changed.
When I see Scali ads to this day I lol - the lovely looking lady walking by her couch running her finger over the top in a nice tight outfit
Classic surprised those ads haven't been banned.

roK sorry to advise I know Scali through golf association, lol The Italian Golf Club.
Can imagine what stories get around at the 19th amongst fellow retired wealthy w og cohorts, its a riot.

My old man was a Psych Nurse. He worked 2 on , 2 off. 12 hour days. On his 2 days off he worked as a Brickies Laborer, for an Italian man with 2 other Italian workers. He often had to sit in the back of the three seater truck thru many winters. He said his Italian boss was one of the kindest men he had met in his life and the boss would come round to each workers house on a friday night and pay wages, but to the wives/partners so the men wouldn't blow the money and the children would get fed.......
