Interesting is that Tesla would've beaten the RAV4 had the boat not failed quarantine and sent back.

About that, would love to know if contamination occurred on land before the cars were loaded or if the ship was already contaminated prior to loading.

I'd be curious about that too. They don't share boats with other manufacturers so only have themselves to blame.

Ranger hit number 1 overall with a massive last month.

When was the last time a Ford was on top for the year?
EL Falcon?

Think the V6 has helped that result.

Ranger v Hilux has become who can get the most ship spaces

Quote:

Both Ford and Toyota acknowledged throughout 2023 the win would go to the car maker that could dock more ships – and deliver cars to customers the quickest – rather than write the highest number of orders.

Top-selling Ford Ranger models have attracted wait times of 12 months or more at certain points last year – while Toyota battled production slowdowns across its line-up in the first half of 2023, though wait times are now down to about three months.

In the second half of the year, sales of both pick-ups hit the accelerator – with the Ford Ranger breaking its monthly sales record in October (6215 sales), November (6301 sales) and December (7767 sales).

Look at the top 10 cars, the top three are all commercial vehicles.

In December, Ford managed to deliver 7,767 Rangers and 1,496 Everest
which shows the importance of shipping space

So I wonder if this is a new level for monthly deliveries of back orders
or just a one off due to timed shipping deliveries?

As mentioned above, had Tesla ship not been infected, December deliveries
may have seen the Y leapfrog into third place….maybe a big call?

Also, 113 F150s delivered…..

And this statement in the article:

“But for the first time in Australian automotive history, no traditional 'passenger car' – a hatchback, sedan, wagon, coupe or convertible – finished in the Top 10 for the year.”

Toyota turned its old manufacturing facility in Altona into a massive pre-delivery centre.

Good idea, get **** ready on a huge scale before they go out to dealerships, makes a lot of sense to me.

Surely checking beforehand or even undertaking some form of precautionary pest fumigation "just in case" is cheaper than having a ship return all the way back to Shanghai and then undergo fumigation.

Crazy situation and strange that it couldn't be handled on the ship itself! Some cars made it off the boat and were delivered before the stop.

If they had delivered all the cars, model Y would've been the third highest selling car in Australia!

Well it looks like Ford have worked out the correct vehicle fumigation processes

Relative works at the docks here in Melbourne, says that Ford has been putting cars in containers which is reducing the amount of dramas with quarantine issues.

Not always. My Mustang was delayed big time due to stink bugs. Car also had a very funky smell when I finally got it

I should have clarified
Ford have worked out the right Fumo process
With their chartered rollonrolloff ship which is exclusive to Ford and delivers Thai specials to Aus/Nz
Ford have also worked out the right Fumo process with cars in containers as Damo mentioned
And because of their diligence on Fumo they have the number 1 selling vehicle in Aus for 2023.

I have said this for years, but a car company with the number one spot comes with a lot of marketing clout. Ford have been there before, so its fantastic they have finally reached for the stars with Ranger and well done to them for making it over the line after years of being almost there.

But please Ford, don't waste this opportunity! It's time for the marketing team to get off their ar.se and work the room!

And worth praising Ford's overall market YTD increase, second only to Tesla from a lower base.

Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

You know that'd go close to bringing an industry back.

Also of note the Houthis lobbing drones, rockets, short range ballistic missiles and helicopters full of jihadis at ships on one of the world's crucial trade route choke points... and the western navies scrambling to intercept all these.

Also of note there's nowhere near the manufacturing capacity (anywhere - east or west) to keep up with the level of artilley rounds being expended

I guess we can say we've kept quite a lot of the defence part of our manufacturing capability with the subs, air warfare destroyers, military vehicles etc

Fuel storage (real - not imagined) will be crucial for Australia.

Get going on your alt_fuel (or electricty!) projects now...

Great news for Ranger but lets be honest here, it took until the last minute to edge out a vehicle thats had next to no investment in a decade.
