Default New power Steering O-Ring broken

Just wondering if anyone has ever had a brand power steering O - Ring break apart after installing. For reference the car is Mk1I FG G6E. I bought a new PS hose to replace a leaking one and 2 new O-rings came with the kit.

I lubricated them before fitting over the pipes and both went on okay. After clamping down the pipes and refilling the reservoir. I started the car to bleed the system and found I had a massive leak where the 2 pipes go into the steering rack.

When I remove the pipes the O-ring on the return pipe was broken as per picture but the one on the supply side was okay. As a test I took the O-ring from the removed hose and put it in and refilled system and there was no leak.

Just to note the hose was from a major Auto parts retailer and not from Ebay.

Was the bag sealed when you bought it?

Factory or aftermarket pipes ? Like the aftermarket PS switches aftermarket tubing often comez with buna or Nitrile rubber O ring gaskets that are not resistant to power steering fluid and dissolve to mush. Polyacrylate 'O' rings are best. Plumbers tape or master pipe sealant won't work either. See the links I posted here https://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11270274 re O ring suitability.

Was zip lock bag with spare plug fitting if switch was not required. Had warning sticker on bag for fitting but no brand name on it.

I will try and source some Polyarcylate O-rings.

CBC Bearings usually stock them and I suspect most other bearing as well as hydraulic hose places would too.

I’m tipping the hose was a return, someone bought it to fix a leak and discovered they only needed a new o-ring. So the hose went back with an old or incorrect o-ring included.

Probably the usual cheap aftermarket with the buna rubber I ring was supplied.

Hi all, I have a 2002 AUXR8 that is leaking from the connection to the power steering reservoir. I have been told that you can carefully cut these off and replace. The replacement nut does not taper like the original nor have an o-ring at the end. Has anyone done this before? Any help appreciated. Cheers

Automotive aftermarket is a right joke - that's what happens when you don't have any standards.
