Default Code names for all Falcon Models.

Heres one for all the family. I was just wondering whats all the codenames Ford has used for the new models before they were released.

I thought the BA was code named "Seagull" by Ford ("Because it will **** over everything"). Could be wrong. I thought the actually model - is the BA (or Barra) - but the code name is different. Could be 110% completely wrong of course : :nutsycuck

I think we have to check we're talking about code names here (not model names) - I think they're different

If we were making a list (of code names), my assumptions would be (but please correct me if I am wrong):

SX Territory - Raptor
BA Falcon - Seagull
2008 Falcon - Orion

No BA WAS Barra, however, the Seagull comment was made in jest By Simon Butterworth in Wheels Mag waaay back in 02'.

EA I beleive was also codeneamed - "Eagle"
BA- Barra
Next Gen - Orion.

Correct me if im wrong , but i remember reading that seagull - or "gull" as it was commonly called was the code name for the BARRA 240T engine during developement.

Lightbulb Hey now, check your change

I thought about launching this one but never got around to it.

Can we do tables in the forum? Maybe Courier will do...

Let's see if we can bring this all together, along with my input...

??______|_____|Orion E8?
BF/SY___|_____|Coppperhead
SX______|E265_|Raptor (which was dropped after it
________|_____| got a mention in the press early on)
BA______|_____|Barra (I guess that's where BA came from)
AU3 = ET|_____|
AU2 = ES|_____|Grizzly (now that we've done the bird thing)
AU = ER_|EA169|Eagle (was also 199X before
________|_____| the program was confirmed)
________|_____| (Perhaps ER was the planned
________|_____| code before AU was decided?)
EL______|_____|Hawk
EF______|EA77_|Ibis
ED______|_____|EB3
EB2_____|_____|EB2
EB______|_____|
EA______|EA26_|(Probably inspired the EA label)
XH______|_____|Kestrel
XG______|_____|Longreach (the only time the project
________|_____| name became a model name?)
XF______|_____|Redwood
XE______|_____|Teak (not certain about this one, but sure
________|_____| there was a teak somewhere along the line)
XD______|_____|Blackwood
...
XK______|_____|19XK Thunderbird

Was the Capricorn the 626/Telstar-based Falcon?

And a few ring-ins:
SA Capri SA30
??? Mondeo DEW98

Still plenty of gaps to fill in...

For the alphanumeric codes:
  • The first letter indictes the size of the vehicle (Falcons and Territories are E size, Mondeo is between D and E(?), S for sporty(?))
  • The second letter is for Australia, where used. Presumaly W means a world car
  • Not sure about the number, but I think they would just be issued in sequence for a central database.
Sorry about the underscores, it was the only way I could think of to align the columns.

RTV was Brolga. Engines and trans also had codes too, Dingo was the standard 6 for BA while Gull was the turbo. Sabre and Rapier were used for 6 speed manual and 6 speed auto. G9 is the code for Typhoon.

I've seen the term 'Seagull' used on the description of an AU2 PCM with a 2R23 Model Code. Looking that up on AFF Parts, I can only see reference to a 5.0L V8 or LPG.

So either this is the code for the 200kW V8 (because the 220kW popped up I thought with 2R53 code), or the dedicated LPG Falcon which came out with the AU2.

My guess is that Seagull is for the LPG cars. I have access to an AU2 dedicated LPG wagon, so I'll see if I can find anything.
