Yeah, ive got a HPI savage, good fun and they are tuff as, but once you get the bug, be prepared to spend some $$$ on them... never ends... engine upgrades, gearbox upgrades, forever breaking axles/cv's and driveshafts, etc etc - it never ends, just like a real car :

some sites: ausrc.com and savagecentral.com

www.rctech.net is good - look down the forums page for the Australian content. GREAT for sale forums in the Aussie section.

Usually a spektrum controller or two for sale.

I saw an XY on the net the other night. Looked a bit strange to me... Guards were way too huge and covered the wheels! I saw a 888 Cover on Ebay for $60... :

My cover is still fine. How big do the holes have to be to let the airflow? I was thinking of just cutting the whole windscreen and rear window out?

dont cut out the whole window. you will make the shell weak and will split the first time it rolls. you need a holesaw (its a type of drill bit) that you can find in any hardware store and will fit into your hand drill. you could also use a big drill bit as well and just add a few holes directly in line with the engine. all holes that you make MUST be round to keep the integrity of the shell.
ive never bothered with the holes myself as i get plenty of airflow as the truck sits higher. i would only do it if the engine is getting too hot (i run 220-240f). anything above that and your not making maxx power, then drill some holes and clean your airfilter. you may even consider a bigger cooling head as well to keep the temps down.

Mine runs really well at 280 - 300f, basically dont tune by temp, tune by the smoke trail. Each motor will behave differently. You'll probably find cutting the windows out wont make a lot of difference unless you are doing long, high speed runs. A lot of the 4wd's generally crawl around and jump so there wont be much of an advantage to airflow by cutting it out.

Agreed. Dont tune by temp - keep a nice healthy smoke trail and go by the feel/sound.

Pinch test is good for low speed needle... pinch the fuel line about 1inch away from the carby. If it revs up savagely then dies - too rich, if it dies immediately - too lean. If it revs up a little and dies within a second or so - you're about right and can fine tune by feel...

With cooling holes - inlet should be about 1/3rd the size of main cooling hole above the cylinder head... you'll often wind up with more in the side for on-body fuel tank access and pull start (if fitted).

alright, someone might be able to help me. ive got a gas RC car... one of the ones done up in a ford shell, i got the ute one with a stick controller.. anyway.

the front right steering arm keeps throwing the pin, so i lose drive to the front 2 wheels. ive replaced all the tires, twice. rotated the rims, replaced the steering arm, twice, tightened everything that holds the little rod. fashioned my own rod that couldnt come out, and still it comes out and dissappears. and no idea why. its 5hitting me.

i got a ute shell and cut a square hole out. ive had plenty of rollovers cause of kids who cant drive in a straight line, and my shell has only scuffed. no loss of integrity at all. and i cut out a window to get to the pull starter easy.

I took mine out today and was hacking around in a new development site up the road - after 1 tank of fuel ended up with a stripped rear diff and a bent front driveshaft... time to rebuild the diff for the 3rd time. :(
