Default MK II engine bay dimensions

Just pondering purchasing a MKII eski and was wondering if anyone knew the distance between; radiator-firewall and between the shock towers, for a possible engine conversion

Thankyou, much appreciated. had a few things in mind depending on the outcome of this thread such as: 1UZ-FE, rb26dett, dart block windsor, and a few others

Don't quote me but I don't think you'll be able to get the Skyline engine or the Windsor in without moving the radiator forward and quite possibly moving the firewall back, a big job there.

Anyway like I said I'm not 100% sure but I'll get the dimensions for you tomorrow. ;)

Yeah i dont have a problem with modifying the firewall and trans tunnel to an extent although i'd rather not have to touch the shocktowers hence root around with the front suspension, had the idea of a v8 escort in my head for a while and when i saw a green rs2000 at the summernats a few years ago fitted with a blown 351 i was in love

is the the green RS you are talkig about M.D conversions made 10 if im correct some blown some N/A....

iv seen afew rb26dett conversions that they have had to cut and shut the firewall but no stuffing with the suspension or shocktowers....

the FE is pretty easy, engine mounts 150mm foward from crossmember mount, gearbox lines up(gearbox mount is needed) tailshaft goes straight in...hydrolic clutch and brake upgrade... your done... but iv been told that the FE motor is hard for replacement or aftermarket parts...and after consulting a friend that has done a few conversions he said it would be better to give the FE a miss and go for a sr20det or something....with a V8 being a very tight fit and depending on your states laws(some states you arnt allowed to have a small car big engine ie. escort-V8) may be a no no....


.....the above is my thoughts only, i may be found wrong as i havnt done said conversion(s).....

That's what I was thinking, it also depends on what you're considering doing with the car (race, street use, show car, etc), and where you are located will dictate the legalities of some potential engine possabilities if is intended to be street legal.

OH, BTW, kiwikid, your pics didn't work for me :(

I remember that green RS2000 you're talking about, bloody awesome car, although I don't know how well something like that would handle with all that extra weight in the front end... But again, it depends on what you are thinking of doing with it.

With a 2.0L Pinto in a MkII Escort GL:
62cm from radiator to firewall (with radiator in normal position).
72cm from shock tower to shock tower.

Not a huge engine bay. There again, you don't need a huge engine to make them go fast. ;)

There was a mk2 esky getting around the act with the leyland v8 in it. I've also seen the capri V6 in a Mk2...

Actually been toying with that (Capri V6 motor) idea myself. Do you have any info at all on how difficult it was? Or wher the car is? Is it in the ACT?

hey guys, as i said in another post... a rotary is the way to go,
theyre small, produce a s**tload of power, are cheap as chips to rebuild and can fit into almost anything... ive got a 12A carby in my eski n it goes like the clappers, would love a 13B turbo.... so anyways forget this whole v8,v6 thing n invest in a rotary, u wont b dissapointed ;)
