Only just started playing golf, bought a set recently, and absolutely love it. I find that I annoy most of my friends asking them constantly to go out and play!
I dont think its "loser-ish" to go by yourself, a bit of practice never hurt, and who is going to see you anyway?? |

I've noticed a few people up here playing rounds by themselves. I just let them go by if they catch up with me.
That's something I've gotta do though, get out and play a round...

I used to play a round by myself all the time! It was great because I could take my time and not feel any pressure. I found it really help learn the game as you can play a couple of balls too and try different things.

nothing wrong playing a round by yourself, get into a routine, you'll find others go alone at the same time and you'll hook up with them on a weekly basis.

I play every now and then, but I don't bother scoring.
I hate fairways next to scrub, I tend to lose about three or four balls, but make up for this by finding two or three that weren't mine... I also hate it when the divot goes further (and/or higher) than the ball. I find that if I aim 90* left of where I want to actually go, this corrects my massive slice. I luff golf! |

I play, but not as often as I'd like. My old man works in the industry, so I've always got access to the latest and greatest equipment and can usually get onto any course. When summer rolls around again I'll start playing again.

I have heaps of clubs, bags and buggies here at home, could prob open my own golf warehouse. Cranners |

Picked up my first club when I was five.
Had I been sent to the right Golf Boarding Schools, I would have taken it further, as I was 15 playing off single digits. But we couldn't afford the extreme prices they were charging. : I have the odd round every now and again, but work has a firm grip on my spare time at the moment.

Played along for a long time, till I threw my back out and havent really played since, only play now when I can get a ride on buggy, but an e-series golf day sounds good to me.

I don't have any old friends who play golf, but have met a lot through playing competition golf on weekends. If you're still in the learning stage (you never really stop learning) and you wish to get better: 1. Take some lessons from a professional. 2. Join a club and participate in competitions. 3. Have a reasonable grasp of the rules. In answer to your questions, I think it is important to get out by yourself and practice, and if you enjoy it, who cares if you play a round of golf by yourself. |

I dont play golf.......I walk the golf course looking for the last ball I hit, get another one out, look for that......get in a foul mood and do the same thing the following month. I enjoy the first hole, then its down hill from there.
OH! and its no problems playing by yourself.........takes the presure off for starters and you can kick your ball to a perfect lye without anyone noticing. | [/url] |

Used to, when I was about 16.
I was pretty crap at it actually. Kept missing the ball on the tee and taking big chunks, out of the ground. lol |

I reckon there is nothin' better than hackin away half a day at the course! Playing by yourself is a no no....How BORING would the 19th be???? :nutsycuck
However going to the driving range by yourself is definately ok...great way to release some tension....oh yeah and maybe improve that swing??? |

I don't mind a game every now and then, it's a good stress easer.
Used to go with some mates every Saturday for a game of 18, or with my brother sometimes. Nah you don't look bad on your own, many of the "older elite golfers" tend to have a game by themselves, good to practice at a driving range before though if the skills are a little rusty.

I used to play a lot, but I don't anymore for some reason. I also used to be a member of a club, got the handicap down to 24.5 last time i checked, then my membership expired and now I only play maybe once every 2 months or so.
It is a great game to play, people can it but it is fantastic as it is purely you vs the course, that is why I didn't mind playing on my own when I was really into it. Also as has been mentioned you usually start playing with someone or another group, it is a fantastic way to learn. If you play with your mates who are the same or worse skilled than you then you won't learn as much. Well that is what I found anyway. I play club cricket in summer too, and I found that my batting has improved since I started playing golf, it's basically the same thing, eye on the ball etc. Hrmmmm I feel like playing right now. : |

I have middled in golf for a little while, never playing tournaments or anything - just hitting the ball with family members and going into Grandpa's paddocks in Walla Walla to practice. I have gotten much more interested this last year...so much so that I have been heading to the driving range at least once a fortnight. I can actually hit the ball in the air consistently now, which is obviously a good thing.
My driving has improved out of sight since going to the driving range, although I don't really have a hell of a lot of power. I also have a devillish slice which is not so fun. But I am hitting it relatively consistently off the tee and starting to reduce the slice a bit. The only aspect of my game that I have been okay at for a long time is chipping because I after school I would go out to the back yard and practice. Don't talk to me about putting though. Ugh. It is quite a relaxing sport I have found, and I am hoping that my increased hand-club-eye coordination will help me with my batting in cricket this year.

I've been out for the odd round of "Wh@ck-ph*ck"
Playing by yourself is acceptable. You get the practice you want with no pressure, and since it's unlikely you'll hold anyone up (bigger group = slower moving as a general rule) you can go at your own pace, even play 2 balls at the same time.
