Hi ben131185,
Love the AU but please get rid of the stripes, they belong on the BA : you can't go wrong with the classic look of the AU Tickford. Nice ride too by the way, sits nice. Any other mods to it. Cheers Mick

Like the combo of silver and orange. Most others I've seen with stripes have been black.
What other mods have you got planned? |

Mods so far are tinted windows, pioneer mp3 head unit, clear indicators on front quarter panels, mesh in lower grill, i added the side skirts which a mate gave to me. The car is not actually a genuine xr6 - its really a series 1 forte but i changed the badges after i got the front, about a year a go i decided to put a series 2 xr front bar on which came up 100% better than it looked before, the backs of the side mirrors & the door strips were black so i ripped them off and had them painted and i got some custom made seat covers all round to enhance the interior, i changed the au series 1 xr 16's for the ba 18's, had the 2.5" cat back system (which sounds great for what it is and what its on) fitted.
Im not sure where im going to go with it next, i thought about clear taillights but i think they look a bit tacky and im starting to run low on cash, and im also wondering if i should just save as much asi can and buy a ba xr8 in a few years. If anyone has any ideas for further mods i can do (especially small inexpensive mods for the moment) please let me know. |

nice choice of colours though.. looks alright though it was designed for the B series and the AU's bum doesnt suit it.. thats my opinion

Hmmmm isnt actually that bad. I'd have gone thinner stripe on the bottom, looks a bit too much to me. Each to their own...take away 'belongs to such and such a model' preconceptions and I reckon it looks ok indeed. Good on you for being different.

don't listen to them on the stripes if you like it good on ya it's a personal thing. So a GT has stripes , well the name Gt and stripes were on a few other vehicles before falcons. Who cares. they look better on yours than a BA because the body kit between the front wheel arch and door on BA makes the stripes go at a funny angle and it looks rediculous. Yep always said if I get a GT it wont have the stripes.

I know that the stripes will always be controversal on au's but im happy with the way they look, not that i would recommend everyone or even anyone else to get them - i just like them because they are something a bit different, abit individual.
And to answer HoT-AU's q - I dont have extractors, im not sure that i will get them on this car, it sounds really nice as it is - one of the best 6's i've heard but after all it is only a 6. I aim to own an 8 one day and then i will definately have extractors! |

Hi Ben131185,
I think some AU’s are suited to GT stripes, and I think yours is one of them. I like the contrast of orange on the silver with tinted windows looks good.

Reply to "Smoked" - Got the ba 18's (They are actually not genuine but look just as good) for $1500 with silverstone 245/40/18 tyres - they are $100 less for 235's. If anyone wants a set i got them from wheels 2 u - 0404 376 380. They are in st.kilda but deliver free.

Genuines are $5700 with dunlop tyres - imagine what else you can do with the $4200 you save by buying copies.

Hi Ben
Nice car. Looks great so far. Think you've done a good job and your on the right track. Theres some things that I agree with and something's I don't. I am all for individuality. Most people know that. You do to your car what you want. If you like the stripes do it. If you like a shaker do it. If you want quad pipes, then do it. Afterall, the Shaker is not an AU thing, or BA thing, its an XY GT Design. It seems that owners with modern cars do not have a problem with taking a shaker and sticking on their car, same as the variation to the V8 twin pipes from the 70's. But when something is designed for their cars from modern era, then people get on their high horses and say you should do it because your a try hard. Heaven forbid that you should stick a bulge on your 6 cyl. I know those with old school cars get the shyte's with people who do their stuff to modern cars. But you never hear them complain and you never hear them call them a try hard. Once thing I've never agreed with is badging. If you want your car to look like an XR by putting on a kit, i think its great, and I have no problem with your making it look like an XR. No matter what, theres a lot of AU XR's out on the road, and it's non genuine, then what do i care. It's still a well cared for AU getting around the streets. Modifying your car is your own business. It is your money, no one-elses. You do it to suit your own tastes. And I know that BA stripes on an AU doesn't make you look any more like a BA XR8 than if you stuck cobra stipes on your AU. It won't look like an XC cobra. Badging a car as a tickford or as an XR isn't the cool thing to do. I believe that badging is a form identification. Much in the same way as the compliance plate gives all the details on the car. If it aint a tickford, don't give it a tickford badge. While it's not doing anyone any harm, it's your choice, so if you want to badge it, even thou it's wrong, then it's your choice. So I would reckon that debadging the car is the way to go. Leave all the other stuff there, just get rid of the badges. For the record, my wings have remained on my car, and I have removed the 6 from my XR badges. My 2 cents worth. : |
