Fair enough. They were impressive for a 4 pot. I can see why you like them. They were very quick cars.

Mmm Sierra
In 1989 and 1990 Peter Brock even raced a mighty Ford Sierra. Seems it took that to get him out of a Torana. Roadgoing versions... mmmm Cosworth...

Will notice in the pics that zeter posted that Brockie removed the Ford badges...
He acknowledged that they were the fastest car available at the time - but refused to be seen driving a Ford. |

Here's a bit of trivia for you. In the early 80's in South Africa they had a Ford Sierra XR6 and XR8.

What ****ed me off was that CAMS changed the rules because the Sierra always won, made them restrict the turbo. Then they let that Nissan thing race. If that Nissan is a touring car, I bare my **** in Bourke Street.
The day DJ was robbed of that Bathurst win when he passed that Ricer on sterroids AND the Ford was forced to race with a restrictor is the last day I watched a touring car race. MAINTAIN THE RAGE I say. Steve PS I still have most of the ATCC Races with Sierras on vidio, should transfer them to disc. |

15 years on and they would keep the current touring cars honest at most tracks.

Wow! I always thought the 4cyl racing Sierras were boring in their day, and I often wondered why they didn't turn to the V8 Sierras to run against the Holden V8s. What sort of power figures does it have? ....and does it go?...I mean fast?

When Dick Johnson ran the 3 Sierra's at Bathurst , a mate of mine (Terry Sheil) was driving the 3rd car , said it was the "biggest neck-snapping" car he'd ever driven . Even wilder than his own RX7 .(exactly the same as Moffats RX7).

People who raced those cars said they were wild. Dick Johnson said he would tip toe the car around the corners, then when he hit the straights he hit the go pedal and wait for the turbo to kick in. You had to make sure the car was pointing straight first otherwise it swap ends on you when the power arrived.
