Default electric aerial question?

hey guys, i have had my head unit (model: kenwood MP8533) in my car for a while now but there is 1 thing that shits me...as soon as the unit comes on the aerial goes up even when i have cd's playing which is not what i want it to be doing it should stay down and only go up when the tuner is pressed. i have already writted to kenwood and asked about it but they aint replied yet..does anyone no if this option can be done on this model? it says something about it in the manual but i dont really understand all that wiring and stuff lol!

cheers!

Can you scan the bits in the manual and post it up? We might be able to work it out from there. What model number is your headunit - may be able to find the manual in PDF format somewhere.

Just to make you jealous, I have a JVC headunit that only puts the aerial up when the radio is on. When DVD/aux is chosen, the aerial goes down.

My old pioneer head unit used to do it, and my new pioneer head doesnt put the arial up at all. I listen to the radio every now and again, but not anymore! I'll have to work something out.

Some head units have an aerial output and a remote, others just have remote.

If your's has both then it's wired wrong, if you just have remote then it is always up, nothing you can do about it.

I just fitted an electric antenna to my forte (never had one) and wired it into my head unit. I've got a problem with it, it'll go down when CD is selected, and go up when radio is selected, but when i turn the car off it stays up. I've got to put it onto CD to get it to go down. Any ideas? There were two wires, antenna and remote iirc.. they were what i wired it to.
Have i wired it incorrectly? If so where should i wire it to?

Cheers,
Glenn

Just wire it to the antenna one, not remote. Remote is for an amp.

the reasons they do this is that (alot of) these later decks have RDS and the unit is picking up radio signals for traffic etc whist the unit is playing CD's as well, so there is constant supply to the aerial feed.....

shame, but a manual switch is the only way around it sorry mate.

I would suspect it is wired incorrectly, i.e to accessory power not constant power

From memory, mine has 3 wires - one to earth, one to radio "antenna" wire, and one to battery. The battery one I hooked into a circuit that is always live in the fuse box. That way, when you turn the car off, the radio sends a signal to put the aerial down, and the power wire going to battery means it has the power to be able to comply.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think all aftermarket stereo's will bring the aerial down when playing cd's. I've got a middle range Pioneer deck & had the same issue with the aerial being up all the time.

To combat the issue I installed a switch in the aerial control signal line. So if I don't want the aerial up, I simply turn the deck off, the aerial comes down, flick the switch (cuts off the circuit) & turn the deck back on, this way the aerial doesn't come up.

To hide the switch I mounted at the back of the din pocket below, this way it's easy to get to & can't be seen.

Cheers

Adrian.

Most Pioneer units don't have the feature ... mine doesn't do it either ... but then again it could have been the installer that didn't connect the wire up ... or was too lazy.

Mine stays up when the car is on ... and goes down when i turn it off. Radio and CD ... it stays up all of the time.

I have the US-spec DEH-P1Y Pioneer unit.

I got it sorted. I wired one wire onto the antenna remote, then spliced the other onto an accesorries wire. Works fine now, thanks guys!

In the interest of avoiding starting another aerial topic (hope you don't mind brent)...

I seem to have some grit in the innards of my aerial which is cuasing to not extend and retract fully. It will do so with some minor assistance from me but not on its own power. I spent an hour trying to lubricate and clean it which helped a little but it still needs work. : Anyone have any tips to clean it successfully? I don't want to have to fit a new aerial if possible.

I'm trying to remove my aerial, to replace it with a powered one. Can't seem to be able to remove the old aerial from the AU fender. Any tips?

It seams everyone's doing this at the same time. The ute only just copped a power ariel recently.
It seams i'm the only one game enough to wire up to height adjustment buttons. The way i've got it, turn the car on, nothing happens. You gotta push the up height adjustment button to get the ariel up, and height down to go down. Beauty is turn the car off, and the ariel comes fully down.
If anyone wants how to do this, pm me

Cheers
