I sit here, at 9:28 on a Tuesday morning. The glare of the rising sun is coming straight through a crack of the blinds in to my eyes. The air con is far too cold. My head hurts, I haven’t eaten breakfast and the only coffee here is International Roast. But as if things couldn’t get worse…
From across the room emanates the sound of pan pipes, crazy drum beats, instruments with names starting with “Z” that I can’t pronounce and the odd tribal shout. WORLD MUSIC! And on and on it goes, always threatening to turn in to a tune, but then repeating the same 40 high pitched notes again and again. Occasionally laid over an electronic drumbeat. World music has its place, sure… In Marrakech brothels, cheap furniture shops and … tribal villages. But not in my office at 9:33am. And certainly not without coffee.
