Original crocodile hunter Malcolm Douglas has been killed in a car accident on his property in Western Australia.

Douglas, who produced and starred in more than 50 wildlife documentaries and films in a career spanning four decades, died after a vehicle he was travelling in hit a tree on his property near Broome, Nine News reports.

Western Australia police confirmed a person had died on the property but said the victim's name would not be released until next of kin were notified.

In July a drunk man broke into the park and jumped onto the back of a 5m crocodile named Fatso.
