Default Welding a new tail pipe on my AU

Hi all, I can't find anything on this in any threads so here goes.

I want to weld a new tail pipe on my 2001 AUII Futura and was wondering if I should disconnect battery?
If so, what sort of problems will/could I come up against once I reconnect battery? Any problems???
Battery would only be disconnected for a very short time.

Thanks regards Rick.
