Get a 120Y Datto. I've heard from many people that they are virtually indestructable. And cheap too. I had a 1981 Datsun Sunny. Was reliable enough and cheap to run, but met its demise when I had to replace the uni's, which was a throw the whole tail shaft in the bin and cough up $475 for a new one. I bought the car for a carton of Coronas. Also, Jeremy Clarkson recommends the late 80's diesel HiLux for reliabilty. They put one through unthinkable punishment (parked on top of a block of flats, then levelled the building with explosives) and it still drove.

I wouldn't trust the top gear team, jeremys Toyboata didn't start and it went through alot less crap than the other indestructable hilux. They've also stated that top gears not necessarily all true.
