If it was up to me, I would have the 5.3 as the normal V8 option, and the 6.0 (with less power than the HSV motor) for the SS and available as an option for the Calais and lwb cars, and maybe the SV8. In years gone by both Ford and Holden had 2 V8s in their line ups, for the people who just wanted the sound of 8 cylinders the small one was adequate and gave a useful gain over the 6cyls.
