About 6 months ago I got a fine for not wearing a helmet on a bicycle. I was livid, only in Nanny-State-Australia could they fine you for that. Who am I hurting except potentially myself by not wearing a helmet?? Then a friend asked what I thought about seatbelt laws. Didn't have a good answer for that one....
As for the USA, they're big on civil liberties, and I admire them for that. But it seems some people just put their safety at risk trying to prove a point. Compulsory seatbelt use is spreading though, when I was there a few months ago I saw plenty of the "click it or ticket" campaign. Some states dont even require motorbike riders to wear a helmet.... |
