Default A.I.R 05/06 racing

Following the success of the Drag Racing for Charity event earlier this month and extensive upgrades by the venue’s owner, ANDRA and Adelaide International Raceway have confirmed dates for competition and off-street events through to June 2006.

The Cruizin’ Magazine Nostalgia Drags, showcasing the sport as it happened in the sixties and seventies, have proven to be very popular events for nostalgia racers, the hot-rodding community and the public. The show will come to Adelaide on November 27th and will present some amazing vehicles on and off the track.

Adelaide fans will see feature fields of Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle racing in December. The low seven second cars and bikes provide some of ANDRA Drag Racing’s closest racing, reaching speeds of more than 280 kilometres in the quarter mile.

January 2006 will see the return of Nitro Funny Cars to Adelaide, after an absence of more than six years and in February, the 2006 Four, Six and Rotary Titles will showcase one of the fastest growing areas of Australian drag racing.

The Supercharged Outlaws found big support as an exhibition bracket in Adelaide in the late nineties. In 2005 it’s become an official ANDRA eliminator and will head the show in March 2006.

As well as the competition meetings, there are 15 regular off-street events between now and June 2006 providing safe, organized opportunities for people wishing to test their street car or bike on the drag strip.

ANDRA CEO Tony Thornton said the success of the October charity event sent a clear message that Adelaide was ready for some of the best drag racing had to offer. “Nationally, the sport has developed strongly since the late nineties and we’ve seen a 24% increase in activity in South Australia in the last month or so, pretty much on the strength of one event.” he said. “We’re all very pleased at the great local support for the charities involved. The drag racing product was also a factor of course and we’re looking forward to a good season through the summer.”
