My Uncle puts me onto a guy who has an AU he's giving away. So I'm thinking why not. Apparently it's been left sitting under a tree after the battery went flat.
So I'm hoping it's not a Forte, otherwise it can stay there. Hoping it's a Fairmont maybe. Anyway, get there and find it's a 2000 series 2 Futura (poor mans Fairmont, rich mans Falcon), it's been neglected for about 6 months (but he kept the rego up). The tyres were still up so I said, yep I'll take it (gave him a carton of Coronas), chucked a battery in, fired up straight away, bit rattley til the oil got up, 188,000 kays on the clock, and drove her home, front tyres were shot, got some new ones. So here it is under the tree. Got her home, out with the vaccy, Kacher and air gun, pulled off all the rubbers got all the leaf matter out of the gutters etc, really bad under the windscreen and a few spiders. Ok so after some elbow grease and pulling off bits and pieces and down to the car wash bay to use the high pressure washer here's how she looks now. Engine bay before. After a degrease and some Fisholene, and some Armorall on the interior, a new steering wheel cover, as the rubber on the wheel was badly deteriorated from the sun. So there you have it, a free car, and I found a receipt in the boot for a new radiator and water pump 3000 kays ago, SCORE. The paint is a bit dodgey, especially on the roof, losing a lot of the clear coat from the bird droppings. My wifes car is a BA Futura, same colour so it's pretty freaky have them next to each other. So now the poor old XC is minus a battery and sitting in the car port conserving kays, big polish coming up for the Perth Ace Ford Cruise for the XC so that will be good.
