Default BA GT what wheel and tyres???

Hi guys
i am a long time watcher thinking about having a go
Car presently has 245/40/18s on it but i am wondering what wheel i should use for the 1/4. Car is manual and loses a few tenths of traction on the change to second.
I am thinking in terms of tyres i could drive up on rather than drag slicks at the moment but if you could let me know what size/brand of slick to use in the future that's great too
Body is standard no rolled guards etc
Ideas please gurus in drag???
