Default HSV Query

Yes I know. I'm gunna get flamed. But my sister needs help.

She has a thing for HSV and just 'wanted one', so she got one. She bought a Clubsport R8. After owning it for a couple of weeks she noticed that the build number in the computer system that displays it on the dash, does not match the build number on the compliance plate in the engine bay. When she went back to the dealer, their suggested fix is to get the right numbers on a compliance plate from HSV and just swap them! Sounds decidedly shonky to me.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening, and if so, what was the fix? She did put a call through to HSV and is waiting for a call back. And because it is over $50K value, Dept of Fair Trade won't help.
