Default Another heater problem

Hey guys,
Done a search but couldn't find anything relevant. I have a series 3 xr8 ute and noticed that the heater will only work while driving through the day, but as I've doing a bit of night shift lately and as other Victorians will know its been consistently below 0 degrees at night, the heater won't at all which makes the 2 hour drive home at 4am a little uncomfortable.
Now, before, the temp gauge sat right on the O, but after changing the thermostat, it now sits on the N.
Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with heater tap or hoses under the bonnet.

Just after any ideas because as this only really occurs at night, is quite difficult to diagnose.

Cheers for any help
