Default Ford Reportedly Wants to Call its Performance Division "999"

Quote:

Ford has may ways of calling its performance cars – ST, GT, RS and the older SVO and SVT which were exclusively used on American market models. It is somewhat confusing, but we’ve gotten to grips with understanding it over the years, yet now they are apparently interested in changing the name to “999.”

Jalopnik got a tip from somebody who participated in a focus group for the evaluation of “a new name for an automaker’s performance division”.

That name is 999 and it apparently means something for Ford as it designates the first ever Blue Oval racer that debuted in 1902. It had an 18.9-liter straight-four engine and set the land speed record in 1904, at 147.05 km/h / 91.37 mph - it only stood for a month.

While the photo provided doesn’t specify the name is for Ford, the tipster did apparently say the document brings it up further on.

Seems a bit silly if they do proceed with it. Whilst it was only from a focus group, Ford were considering it.
