Default fuel consumption 'perspective'

I thought I few of you may be interested in the consumption you (I) get from a really UNECONOMICAL engine.

Ive had a few, but nothing can consume fuel like big V6 outboard engines.

I have a 225 HP EFI 2 stroke Yamaha on my 6m plate alloy fishing boat and yesturday returned the following figures.

Total engine hours for day 8.25

Total distance travelled (per track on GPS) 84 miles. - 134 km approx

Total fuel consumed (per fuel management computer) 164 lt, plus a couple of lts of outboard oil.

Most of the time was at idle or slow speed, 50 or so of the miles were at travel speed of 34 mph - 55 kmh approx, or about as economical as it can be !

So lt per 100 km ? TRY 122 lt / 100. averaged for the day.

Oh, and water sports..... WOT = 52 mph = 84 kmh approx with a fuel burn of 94 lt / hr. Over a 100 lt / 100 km travelled. Tow more than one skier, and Ive seen it as high as 120 lt / hr.

Think of it another way, at WOT my 3.2lt V6 ouboard drinks bloody near a 2 lt milk carton per minute. (5400 rpm)

Still reckon your Boss or turbo uses too much fuel ??
