Default 2020 Ford Bronco to mimic new Jeep Wrangler

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. ;)

The 2020 Ford Bronco, it’s been confirmed, will run the same Dana solid axles front and rear as the all-new Jeep Wrangler…

According to a report by Automotive News, allegedly derived from a Dana investors meeting, the recently announced 2020 Ford Bronco will feature the same Dana-produced solid axles as the next-generation Jeep Wrangler. It’s believed the axles for the Bronco will be built in the same Toledo, Ohio factory as the Wrangler.

And the same goes for the US version of the Ranger, which Dana confirmed: “[both vehicles will have] front and rear axles featuring our latest AdvanTEK gear technology”. It’s worth remembering that the original Bronco was derived as a competitor to the Jeep CJ in the 1960s, and Dana provided the axles back then, too.

The news from Dana shows the new Bronco will be more than just a re-badged Ford Everest. That said, both Bronco, Everest and Ranger share the same T6 light truck platform. Because Australia is the global development centre for the T6 platform and will (and is already) perform the early engineering work for the new Bronco and the next-generation Ranger.

There’s no word on whether the new Bronco will be sold in Australia, but given our strong off-road community and the fact that Everest has just been re-classified as an off-road passenger vehicle, anything is possible. Stay tuned.
