I haven't needed to use anything on the grill of my Mustang yet but I have used Autoglym Instant Show Shine on the honeycomb grills of my FG. You simply spray and then remove any excess.

Water activated sealants could also work well. I use CarPro Hydr02 however many brands make similar products. Hydr02 is sprayed onto a wet surface then hosed off, job done!
