I manage a church campsite 50 from home, due to its location it runs a stand by 10 KW genset for frequent power outages. I am supposed to work 3 days a week.
Today (day off) power at home goes out, I ph camp straight away and tell the camp leader what to do getting gen set working. all good he follows me exactly 20 minutes later frantic ph call, we have a fire, the gen set is alight. Crap 40 litres petrol inside it I advise to turn all power off and hit with correct extinguishers and proceed to drive out to take control ???? 10 minutes from home police ute parked on side of road, phew thank goodness I wasnt speeding thinks I. Then he is on my *** lights and siren going. **** I know where your heading says I and proceed to follow him, swerving in and out of caravans, slow cars and grain trucks, at this stage Iam thinking I could get in the poo for this.... suddenly he pulls over and signals me to do the same. I yell at him are you going to ..............? Yes he replies, are you CFS? No Iam the manager.... Follow me he says, dont get lost.. we are suddenly doing 170k (I was scared ****less) but lights and siren going, I just sat on his bum. Off the highway and 20k of dirt road we are still over 130k. We arrive at campsite, CFS are there and have everything under control. He comes up to me gets the usual paperwork done for his report and says.... That ute of yours does alright on the road, well done for keeping up. We now have limited power and limited water pressure working and a rough insurance claim of $18K what a day. The year 9 girls at camp thought it the best day ever.
