Seems like we both shared a milestone today. Today also marks my 8th month without a drop of poison (Wild Turkey was my thing). I was doing nearly a bottle a day for 8 years... finally my body (all 62 KG's of it) said NO! Warning! Long read ahead... I couldn't write my name when sober, DT's shaking hands etc, I started falling over. I needed to spend a day and a half in bed feeling like death after a bender every other day... needing to get hammered as soon as I woke up to avoid feeling like crap... only to feel worse after drinking again.. Not being able to drive like I used to.. not meaning: the older I get the faster I was kinda thing. My eye hand co-ordination was just rubbish. My balance was almost non existent. My eye sight started to suffer big time. Everything was getting foggy, as if I had welding flash type of foggy. I started to forget things I said and did. NOT GOOD. As I have an excellent memory when it comes to the spoken word, especially words that I have uttered. Who eva said "the best way to avoid a hangover is to stay drunk" is a liar. I tried it. Doesn't work (for me anyway). I stayed as bent as i possibly could get for 2.5 days. Felt good. Went to sleep, and to be honest, when I woke up, I wished I was dead. I just felt that bad. That's when I decided: enough is enough. I was drinking to forget a past relationship with a woman. Then it finally dawned on me that, shit man, c'mon, it's been 8+ years and I have a new partner of 4 years, get over her, move on. She (the ex) doesn't know or care that I am trying to kill myself by drinking. Anyway, I have had 2 jobs since I quit. The 1st one was shit. Lasted 2 months, then got the boot. Best thing that happened. 4 days after getting the DCM, I landed my current role, HR truck driver, local deliveries of general freight in a 14 pallet tailgate equipped Nissan UD beast. My current job is Ace. I wake up happy. I got to work happy. I like all the people I work with. I like doing what I do. I Love my truck. My boss is killer, knows what he's doing, and thus, makes me look good because I don't have to 2nd guess his thinking. Main thing is, I am happy inside. Don't hate myself anymore. Hope you to are reaping the benefits of sobriety my friend. One Man
