you dont really believe that so you. Just do some research I am sure you will learn otherwise.

If your referring to the VT being an all new platform from Europe then you are correct, but it was not Oz designed

Holden really needed to source from OS. They simply couldn't do anything locally. When the Commodore first came out it was using the old I6 that had been around for years. In the meantime Ford started going OH cam and alloy heads. Holden were left behind, they had no Engine so needed to use a Nissan. Then, they get even lazier and use a Buick. At least they have now done some development to the Buick.

When it comes to the crunch, tehnically, Holden have been way behind Ford (in more areas than just the engine). One of the reasons Commodores are popular with hoons is that it was so far behind it needed mods. The old engines were fairly easy to modify. Add "image" to that. Holden is an Aussie name so it gives the illusion of being an Aussie car. None are really "all Australian".

LOL @ this thread. I hope no Holden supporters are reading this, it makes it look like this forum is full of uninformed, dumbshit bogans who can't win an arguement fairly, so they have to turn to personal insults.

Yeah the VE is approximately 80% imported and Ajax going under was ther perfect opportunity for them to outsource more parts from OS. Ford is no where near that in the aspect of importing, its only around 20-30% The IRS, sub chassis, driveshafts, trims, engines (excl Boss) springs, shocks just to name a few are made right here in Australia.

I thought Ford Australia invented the ute? Did we? Some people say that a ute is a pickup, which is therefor American. I was under the impression that a pickup is different to a ute. Can anyone else expand on this?

Ford did invent the ute, Lewis Bandt designed it in 1934?

As for the difference between a ute and a pickup, the ute has a tray and cabin that is all the one piece whereas a pickup has the tray body seperate from the cabin.

We won't mention that the AU-BF Falcon utes are actually pickups though as the tray is seperate from the body. The Falcon pickup doesn't have the same ring to it that the Falcon ute has.

Yeah, that's a good thing though. Even though it's a pickup, it's good that you can put your own tray on and have all that power to truck stuff around in. Whereas utes are a little less dynamic.

how many times have we all heard that the SUPPOSED aussie car was the 48-215 (fx) holden.... it was nothing off the sort.

have a look around at some of the proposals gm had for the 46 model chev.
funny how 1 of them is exactly the same as the fx we got in 48... although the fx was slightly smaller.
also, the 'grey' holden six they had in them... another scaled down chev product.
and the engine that soooo god damn many holden heads call the 'aussie 6'... the holden red motor.
well, try again boys. holden got it, lock stock and barrel, from vaxhaul in the uk. vaxhaul was using them in 1961, and we saw them in the eh holden in late late 63.

holden's 'australian identity' is about as aussie as a love child by George Bush and Tony Blair. A bit of each, and call it something else.

while we all know ford isnt australian, at least ford dont try to ******** about it, and their products are their own!

VE 80% imported yeah right, nice exageration.
Ford will eventually have to go the same way if they want to stay competitive. I'd be willing to bet Orion will be sourcing many components from overseas.
You guys are going to have a lot of these comments rubbed back in your faces. :

I bet they will still sell much the same as does the Commodore. I still rather a cheaper car, than being able to say "Hey mines all Australian" _

You know what's funny is most of the **** in our homes is probably from China!

The fact is that the Falcon is the most Australian car on the market today.

Falcon has been Australian since 1972. The Commodore from 1979-2005 was Opel based.

That's all that needs to be said. Holden started that crappy marketing slogan about being Australian in the 50s or thereabouts. But that was 50 years ago. 50 years ago, underpants were probably all white and Chesty Bond was still in the womb (I guess).

The Falcon is not 100% Australian due to international pressures, but fact remains that Holden Australia died a bloody long time ago and people need to recognise that.

But doesn't mean the Commode is a bad car. In fact, it's good.

But I still prefer my crappy Falcon, thank you very much!

You seem to be missing the point if this thread. This thread is about a Red/Blue argument on another website which an AFF user wanted grenades for.
Why would comments be rubbed in peoples faces?? I'm sure that if/when Ford Au source a greater number of components from O/S the point will be mute and only discussed retrospectively - to which Ford is still more Australian.

Just playing devils advocate here but I believe it was FPVGT (username?) who had to wait several weeks to get his replacement dash from overseas for his GT!!!!

We can aknowledge that Fords are not Australian and mose Holden owner/drivers who know a bit will say the same about Holdens....there will be one-eyed dullards flying both red and blue flags that think otherwise......
