the 351 block has more metal in it. A stock 302 block will crack if you try and run anymore than around 450hp through it. So ive been told anyway i could be wrong!

sorry to pry guys but i`m 99 % sure the 351 is 1inch taller block, and your right about the torque, i have a 351 windsor with 302 closed chambered cleveland heads in my xc coupe and the sheet says 166.4rwkw @ 723Nm torque but only prob is the sheet dosn`t say rev range. love to have that power in my 5litre au xls..mick.

Yes I have done the deed and droped the 351 in my AU XR. It can be done, it isnt hard. Their are now a few floating around, the added cubic inches is very welcome and next time I will be going a stroker 351 up to say 408 or thereabouts, Ive dont mine for club and race use rather than street us but still easy to do, I ran it on the street with efi in its last guise.
Dont mind sharing all I know so send me a pm or fire some questions here. I've got pics of mine with all the EFI gear on it as well if you would like to see these, you only have a few manifolds to choose from being the GT40 lower, TFS lower and a couple others, you need to think big as airflow is 20% greater than a 302 from the start as well. I would not use a 351 roller block they are not the same. I used an early read 1969 block for the added strength. The real advantage over the 302 block is better rods, main caps thicker, 1/2 inch head bolts used, generally more metal etc but at a cost - weight. If you are on an unlimited budget use an aftermarket block like a dart as the base, otherwise you will have to see what you can find the '51 blocks are not everywhere these days. the mains in the 351w are 3inch and i think the 302w has smaller mains

Be prepared to do bonnet mods as well due to block height of the 351w compared to the 302w
