Default Gear Knob Legalities

Hey guys I read somewhere that if you buy a gearknob without the shift pattern on top then it is illegal? (I'm in QLD.)

The thread in my gear knob is buggered and I was thinking about buying a shiny momo knob off Ebay, but they don't appear to have the shift pattern on top.

If it is illegal without the shift pattern, is there somewhere that sells sticker overlays or something?

I believe having no shift pattern on your gear knob can get you defected, I think it's an ADR requirement.

Old Holdens used to have a stiker on the console, that might do the job

From what I've heard so long as you have the shift pattern somewhere near the stick you'll be fine.

meh, my father for years had a toyota hilux with a 5 speed box, but the knob showed a totally up the creek shift pattern, he considered it an anti-theft device cos he decided anyone that stole it wouldn't get anywhere fast

First I heard of this requirement for the shift pattern on the knob. The BA XR manuals don't have the pattern on their respective knobs.

Actually yes, they do. Because it is indeed illegal not to have them.

I had a friend who is a recently graduated copper in the car the other night, and she happened to mention it.

The standard gearknob had the shift pattern. The optional Momo gearknob didn't

Ive got a Chrome skull gear knob and it hasn't got a shift pattern on it and it passed a BLUE SLIP...

Talking about anti theft, they won't know what to do when they find an old 4 speed. lol.

Yea but there are slightly different rules in each state. So just because your in Vic doesn't mean that its so here in QLD or NT... and Dezrick is here in QLD. Your best bet is to ring up QLD transport and have them tell you to find it on the website so that you can bang your head against a brickwall. Next time i run into one of my copper mates i'll ask them. chances are they don't know and that'll be the same accross the board as all it will be is a simple fine. If they ever bother pulling you over ... lazy bums lol

Whats the deal with ford selling the momo gear knob as an optional extra then. I know it doesn't have any markings on it as I have one.

Actually, You'll find that as standard the 'fog lights' are actually driving lights (28W as opposed to 55W fog lights)

my gear knob is just a giant polished metal ballbearing with thread drilled out of it and screwed onto the stick, and my fog lights are always on because... i have no excuse but they always are...

i've been pulled over many times and not one cop has said anything about it...

i think you'd have to be some kind of super jerk or extreemly unlucky for a cop to bother defecting you for that.
