One of my headlights only has the park lights when it's turned on, I'm guessing it's gonna have to be replaced.
What's a headlight worth these days ? Are they only available new thru Ford ? Is getting the front bar off to replace it a headache ?

It will be a dead globe or wiring issue Loxx, the headlight itself wont actually need replacing.

The low beam is a H4, I think. A bit hard to replace on drivers side, but passengers is easier (unless you have the G&D box). Globe specs and even how to replace them are in the owners manual (around pg 48 IIRC).

Oh ok, I though the whole unit would have to be replaced.

Ok I stand corrected, been a while since I worked on an XR. was getting confused with the Fairlane (yeah I know they aint even simillar) but they do take H7s when you've pulled out a couple of hundred headlights in a year they all just sort of blur together

you shouldn't need to find the manual. globe specs are on the glass cover. and they are really hard to get out!! i will never attempt it again.

My ute is different now ... I run H1s for low beam. Mainly because I have a different design headlight using a projector inside it. : :

just replaced my headlight globe on my drivers side, probably the hardest light i have come across yet to change globes. if it was a council car this would definately be a 6 man job.

I also recommend these globes for extra brightness + distance. I think it was somewhere around $70 to replace them all. Well worth it for country driving. |

I've been doing mtce stuff and I'll put in in for a once over the week before we leave. Maxxis go on next week. Trans oil cooler next week as well. I've made a sub enclosure for the boot (sits up on the ledge behind the rear seat) so floor space is free. It gets carpeted next week as well... big week, lol. This weekend I'll make a bracket for the uhf aerial. I'm thinking of mounting it off the towbar. Probably just weld a bracket to the towbar and bolt an aerial mount onto that. A few more bits and pieces to do and we'll be off. |

I have a small mount at the front right of my bonnet for my small UHF work aerial ... I am used to seeing it there now ... I guess it depends on how large your aerial is.
Good to hear you are happy with the globes ... I just blew one the other night ... good thing I had a spare sitting at home to use.

Definitely recommend the Narva +50's.
Once you get used to how the clips work, it's not that hard to change the globes. ronwest, just watch out for the wildlife. I just got back from Tas 6 weeks ago in mine.

Actually its one of those <forgets brand> that you can add a piece for country driving and remove it for around town. I only use the uhf on substantial trips away so the plan is to mount it off a bracket connected to the towbar on the passengers side rear (out of the way of the boot opening). That way I can use the hole for the trailer electricals for the aerial cable. |

Which part of the boat did you buy? Surely the price to get 2 x ppl and a car to Tassie return includes a piece of the boat? |

Ron, I ended up with the fridge magnet.
I had organised a twin share porthole cabin both ways.
