As everyone knows, the narrow headlights on the EF-EL series give out very little light, so I was wondering about fitting an HID conversion kit.
One dealer, who didn't have them available, told me that they may not work very well, that the design of the headlight reflector may only suit the filament type bulbs. Question is, has anyone fitted a kit, and do they work as described in the ads, 300% more light etc. Regards, Ray.

They are very bright but not suitable for reflector style headlamps. I would suggest doing an EF-EL headlight conversion first so you at least have basic projectors to work with. It would not be cheap...
Consider driving lights instead. Last edited by ilsautomotive; 22-05-2007 at 01:30 PM. |

he means EF/EL tickford converstion
i have the 6000k setup in mine, headlights wound down a fair way. My headlights lenses are real bad, it seems to take the edge off the brightness. They do absolutely **** all over the standard items though, even to the point im considering not getting the lenses reco (but will anyway for asethetics, might have to revert back to halogen globes)

Illegal as well. For Australia you need an automatic headlight levelling system and headlight cleaning system for them to be legal. From http://www.auraxt.com.au/faq.html

copper has pulled me up with them, asked me if they were HID and i said yep. Told me they were illegal but he knew how bad they were from the factory so let me off. Only reason he noticed was the blueish tinge as he was oncoming, was hoping to pull over a ricer lol. (his words)
Werent distracting to him either.

ive done it the propper way, done a propper retrofit, (check the thread in my sig) using honda accord euro projectors with denso(toyota) balasts and bulbs.
shits all over my old setup which was a kit fitted to BMW projectors..... the new setup was very pricey though and would be difficult to implement into an EF headlight.. due to the fluted lens in all honesty, the HID setup is only as good as the reflectors you're putting the gear into, if the reflectors arent designed for it, its a waste of time. stick to good halogen bulbs in a headlight designed for halogen IMO... |

Because most of the new cars have self leveling systems fitted..
I find them very annoying.. Cheers, Nik

As mentioned already, cars with HIDs have to have self leveling functionality and well as washers.
Lexus, BMW, Accord Euro, etc. all have these.

hella do a universal headlight leveling kit and a universal headlight washer kit, which i'll be getting for mine reasonably soon.
that said, the leveling motors are ONLY for loading the car up, they do not compensate for bumps in the road, they simply cant move the reflector quick enough for that Last edited by LUXO_8; 22-05-2007 at 10:44 PM. |

Thanks for the info, gentlemen, but I can't see me doing a Tickford conversion anytime soon!
Looks like I will stick to Halogen, but I am thinking of checking volt drops down the wiring, I might pick up a few lumens by upsizing the supply wire sizes. I am mainly interested in getting a better low beam. Regards, Ray.
