Yes its a limited edition Monaro, however its future value depends on someone believing it has some significance in the historical car world in 30 years time. And to be honest, with no real racing / manufacturing claims to fame, I'm not sure it will be a particular stand out.

If the purchase was simply to believe you could purchase any unique car, hold it for 30 years and then make a profit, I would probably suggest a few cars that will appreciate more than the last model Monaro.

Porsche GT3 RS
Porsche 911 Turbo Targa
Last ever Mitsubishi Evo IX or first Evo X

If we are talking a choice of any cars then throw in

Porsche 959
Mercedes Benz Gull Wing
Ford GT40
A/C Shelby Cobra
Mach 1 Mustang
Shelby Mustang
SS Camaro
Yanko Camaro
Hemi - take your pick

etc
etc
etc

Overall an interesting decision. Perhaps drop us a not in 2037 and let us know how it goes

I stated, the only reason he may have bought it was due to the available discount, as the non financial reasons do not appear to be entirely clear. Namely

1) it's lack of racing / manufacturing claim to fame,
2) alternate "ready to enjoy" classics already exist so why wait 30 years to create one?
3) if for personal enjoyment why wait 30 years to drive it?

The current and future value of the car are irrelevant. I was just trying to ascertain the motivations behind the decision to purchase and store a car for 30 years

I think its worth noting that even though the VZ CV8Z was a so called limited addition model, there were actually at least 1600 built. Which approximately equals the number of regular VZ Monaros built. So they are by no means "rare".

Plus, most will be garaged/pampered because their owners think they are something special/rare etc. Holden even advertised them as future museum pieces from memory.

I'd bet in 30 years time there will still be over 1000 immaculate CV8Z Monaros still around. And available for purchase at reasonable prices without very much searching at all.

Dont get me wrong though, I'm not knockng the CV8Z, its a great car and I'd love to own one. But I'd drive it every day, and wear it out without a worry in the world.

30 years ago Ford was building the last of the XC hardtops. Do you think there's still over 1000 immaculate examples out there?

Thanks for sharing, MattyJ. Very interesting to see what people are doing/planning with modern musclecars.

In 30 years there will be not Petrol to drive it.
Cars may be the apparent "best investment" now, but in the future, fuel will be a lot more expensive and cars will be turned over a lot quicker as technology makes them more efficent.

I dont know how many XC hardtops might still be doing the rounds but agreed, its probbly less than 1000. But the CV8Z is a bit different. A lot seem to have been purchased by poeple who'll pamper and garage them, which will keep the attrition rate down. Plus the superior rust proofing and general build quality of a modern car will allow them to hang in there a lot longer than your average XC, which would have lasted about 10-15 years.

There will always be fuel whether it be ethanol or some other synthetic blend in the future around to power up these dinosaurs. The question will be how much do you want to spend per litre, $20 $50 $100 perhaps!

Some cars will always be considered a classic and I think these cars will be collected and driven for pure enjoyment and not for daily duties. I'd prefer a HG or HK monaro anyway. They look ten times better, sound like a V8, and have proven themselves to be appreciating assets.

I suppose the difference is when the XC came out, people didn't know/realise that aussie muscle cars would be worth a motza in the future. However, given what's happened to GT's, Brocks etc, people are generally aware that something rare and exclusive will be worth coin in the future, hence why I reckon there will be quite a few mint CV8z's around in 20 years time.

Yeah, some how i think this thread is full of crap, a bit like the Turbo badge on an XR6 NA thread...

Love people who back their info up with "my daddies brother works here" or my cousins this, when in reality what they are saying is incorrect... Just because i say my dads an accountant does that mean I can count to 10??

Agreed,it seems a bit strange that the thread starter has dissapeared and isnt willing to show more photo's.
I didnt realise it was so difficult to walk out to your shed and take a photo.....
