Something to help everyone plan their mods

G'day all,
Well, what originally started as a personal interest project to help me practice using theory and skills i'm learning at uni (currently doing mechanical engineering) has grown somewhat into a mass of data from emperical testing and graphs etc.

Anyway, I've taken a small slice from what I've done and packaged it into a file that you guys can use to test out the effects of driveline modifications and test relative ingear acceleration between your car and your mate's. Admittedly its not as fun as hitting the track but it can be used as a tool to help plan mods.

Note: the acceleration comparison is NOT a quarter mile calculator!!!

Here's a rough copy of what I've done which I'm posting in the aufalcon.com and bseries.com sections (I think you guys will get most use out of it). I've got some polishing to do (will finish uni exams first...) but have a play and see what you can get out of it. If you want, make some suggestions and I'll try and incorporate it into the polished product.

Hay mate!

Sounds interesting!! But its an .XLS file and my computer cant identify what it is... What program should I download so I can run this file???




EDIT: hehe sorry for my stupidity! Its Excel isnt it! hehe Ive got it running now!

.XLS would be a spreadsheet, so open with Microsoft Excel, or the OpenOffice Spreadsheet program.

Microsoft Excel. I probably shouldn't support piracy (so it won't recommend downloading it) but you can access it through obtaining Microsoft Office or opening it in Google Documents (extension of GMail).

Actually, I believe if you head to the Microsoft website you can freely download their "Excel Viewer", it doesn't have very many functions at all but you can do odd bits with spreadsheets. Or, OpenOffice is totally free and downloadable from www.openoffice.org

I appreciate that the mods tester is in no way user friendly at the moment. I'm going to try and fix that. All you really need to do with the it is put in your power (at the wheels) and rpm. Into the corresponding sections on the Curve inputs page. I've put in an example of how to convert speed to rpm for each power reading off of the graph. I'll add some more instructions and update in about 15mins.

Update:
Guys, for now just place your inputs into the areas on the first worksheet in the yellow or sky blue shaded areas. I've put in a few more instructions. Unless you're reasonably clued into Excel, ignore the acceleration worksheet as I need to work on that more.

Input is genuinely appreaciated. I know its hard to use right now but I'm only just starting the process of making it user friendly. Trust me that it will get a lot better.
