Default XR8 or Tickford Snorkel???

I'm thinking of getting a snorkel for the forte and have come across an xr8 snorkel for about $30. Should i pick it up or get a tickford/xr6t replacement one from a ford dealer? About how much do they cost? Is the only difference between the xr8 and tickford snorkel the badge?

Thanks

Is there any cutting involved in putting a BA/BF snorkel on the AU?

Is the BA/BF xr6t snorkel a better option over the au xr8 snorkel?

They are, effectively, identical. The XR8 one has the Tickford wings though and usually sells for more on ebay. :

The AU XR8 one is the same as the AU Forte one, until series 3 AU XR8 when they got the Tickford ones.

If the AU XR8 one you're looking at is an AU3 XR8 snorkel with the Tickford logo, then grab it for sure. I sold mine on ebay for about $150 ish from memory and it was a bit scratched and had been cut to suit an E-series!

If it's not one of those, then don't bother, just get the XR6T one.

I just got meself one of these this morning, and I noticed that the opening sags a bit in the middle. Would it help to heat it up until soft, and keep it jammed wide open with something until it cools?

Also, on an otherwise completely stock engine, what kind of gains does it give? 3kw maybe?

Cheers Nic

I've had 2 Tickford snorkels and 3 or 4 XR6T snorkels, and everyone one of them had that slight sag to them that you mention. Maybe it's shaped that way intentionally?

Casper, they're not identical.... I swapped my XR6T one for the Tickford one, and I must say the car goes MUCH harder! I reckon it's doing 2 seconds less for the quarter now.....LOL

It aint intentional, just the way the plastic bends when the extra piece is cut off (see the cut marks).

Hope this isn't true - I asked for the xr6t one! Although on the bag it said V8 snorkel, and they do look the same?!

How much is the ba/bf xr6t snorkel from ford? Is there any cutting involved to get the snorkel to fit on the au2?

About $30 or a touch more, varies by dealer. Straight fit to any AU.
