I got rid of my 20's on my BA because mainly for the fact that 3 months after i had them fitted they could be seen on about 3 out of ten cars.
Also the ride and brakes suffered from having larger diameter wheels. |

I dont own big rims but at the Tomago show today there was a XB Coupe with 24". It scrapped the wheel arches and looked bloody rediculas.

ive got 20s
they are great the right in the front end is rather jittery (225/30 tyre) but the bigger tyre companys have released a 245/30 profile tyre for the 20" rims and it would make the ride alot better i believe?? we were looking at 19s for debs car due to lower price of tyres but the difference in price is minimal and the range of wheels is very limited in 19s compared to 20s sadly so we are going 20s again on hers

I went from 15’s to 16’s (brand new Factory Honda CRV alloys) for my track tyres because they were only $100 each. They were a poofteenth heavier which I hate but at only $100 each for sprint rims they are a bargain. Sometimes the ride seems a bit worse but as my track tyre pressures are initially a bit lower than my normal road tyre pressures (until they heat up on the track) it evens out a bit.
p.s. Someone was telling me about a mate buying a new HSV years ago that had ‘monster’ 15” wheels on it. When he got it home everyone was in awe of the “big” wheels and getting tyres that would fit this extreme size was hard. That was years and years ago….

Below is a lot of my OPINION.
Here in the US, and now evidently in the UK........... http://users.ox.ac.uk/~scat2321/2k/low/lowdubs.htm ...they put 22" and larger rims on cars. You can tell they have no idea! When huge rims are put on older muscle cars, that is just wrong. The bodies were designed with 15" rims and a certain amount of sidewall in mind and look best with 14 - 17" rims. What was this guy thinking??? Here in Ohio I check out Craigslist.com, which is like an online classifieds, and see a lot of these rims for sale, advertised as usually only a few months old.....that was all they could take after riding around on these things. Wagon wheels belong on stage coaches, not old cars. Some of the newer cars can get away with bigger than 17" rims because of the design of the fenders and wheel openings. But on the older cars......please step away from the vehicle if you are thinking 20-something rims. At a tire shop I was told by one of the salesmen that customers usually come back after a week to ask what is wrong with their car after they get the 20" rims and tires. He then has to explain the difference between a tire and a rubberband and the reason for the difference in "feel". Many customers don't like feeling every twig and crack in a road. I figure this huge rim thing is just a fad that will pass, like the lowered car, small, too-wide rims of the 1990's. Just because you can..... ....doesn't mean you should. In this picture, if this were 15 years ago, this person would be considered a "redneck" and the car would have been 4 wheel drive.....and still would have been made fun of. Yup, braking is harder because now the road has more leverage against the brakes. Steve

i downsized to 18s from 19s because
1...ride too rough on 19s theres a noticible difference in the ride on 18s 2.. guard scraping even though my car is standard height 3..19s looked too big on my el xr6 4..18s look a bit more sensible on my car ,17s would probably look better 5..the cops seem to look alot harder at cars with big standout wheels rather than smaller more subtle rims 6..bigger is not always better in my opinion!! |

I got it repaired before the sale, but I had to go to a guy who repaired weird things for Qantas to get it fixed! Have not been interested in big wheels since, although my Outback has 17" as stock. Oh, and so does my bike : )
