Candle Power
What kind of Candle Power / Globes do people have in there cars? I had XF Falcon S pack (19 WONDERFUL YEARS) with 100w/55w globes Normal lights 100w High beams 100w Spotlights Can I do the same to the AU11 Wagon? |

I do advise not to use HID kits in the factory polycarbonate headlights as well ... for some reason they damage them as well.
I run factory spec wattage globes ... just the Narva Plus 50s (brightest light output out of all the halogen globes i have tested). Driving lights ... LightForce 240's (100W globes only) ... light's the catseye's and signs for a good kilometre or more on freeways at night.

I've got the same kit as JC in my AU2. The HID kit that JC and myself have do not damage polycarbonate lenses as they are UV treated to stop yellowing.

Sorry for the hijack but I'm interested in converting my headlights to Xenon, would be interested to know the costs & effort involved in this, I've heard you need all sorts of ballasts & things to regulate electricity flow to them.
Also, do you just use the normal headlight surrounds/mountings/lenses etc or do you need to change all these to suit Xenons? And by Xenon I'm assuming you mean the real deal and not just those globes with blue glass that I've seen marketed as "Xenon".

It's didn't damage the actualy lens itself .... it damaged the reflector around the back of the HID filament and discoloured it. I think it will work better in the XR headlights compared to the standard AU headlights though (as the reflector design is very different). As I found with the standard AU headlights ... the beam was all over the place and uncontrollable due to the larger reflector area and flat reflective base internals that made the HID beam glare upwards.

I got 95W low 100watt high in my cortina. works fine.
I had 50watt low and 55watt high before it was like driving with candels.

The HID set up I went to had HID globes protruding slightly further into the assembly which changed the way it reflected. The light was intense but by the time I lowered the lights so they didn't blind everyone the lights were angled that low that the advantages were lost and people still complained. I went back to 100w narva and 55 watt low plus 50's
