Recently my Territory was diagnosed with a dead, that is really dead rear diff bush. So my first port of call after being disgusted with Canberra Ford dealers and some other mechanics was to book it in at Gentech.
In my last 2 attempts with a Canberra dealer, one visit cost me $120 in taxi fare for a few interior warranty fixes. The second was to finish those things they did not the first time, this cost me a full day off work and all they did was replace 1 small item which would have taken at most 30 minutes, but they required it for the full day. So when I booked with Gentech I requested a courtesy car as advertised on their website. When I arrived this morning the car was waiting and all it cost me was the petrol used to and from my work. You cannot beat this as part 1 of the service. When I arrived I found out that Kit, the Ford specialist at Gentech, was with his wife who had gone into labour. I hope all went well and wish Kit and his partner all the best and hope the new birth is a fantastic event. So Marcus got to deal with me and my sagging Territory. Being a very technical person all I could recommend was he speak to Craig at Aussie Car Enhancements as he had replaced one of the diff bushes in his own Territory, and Craig had said he was happy to offer advise if Marcus needed it. So the Territory was left in the safe hands of Gentech. And I went off to work Marcus rang me at work to fill me in on all that was required and I gave the go ahead. So when I returned to Gentech this afternoon I was not surprised to see some relieved faces that the ordeal of replacing the diff bush was finally completed. They required the use of a fork lift as the whole rear end sub frame needs to be removed, specialist tools to realign the rear end, tools made to help in the removal and installation of the bush, bleed the brakes, replace diff oil, and a full front and rear wheel alignment. I don’t think this was an easy job for the guys at Gentech but they sure rose to the challenge and my gosh driving home the Territory felt fantastic. I live about 28km from Gentech out on the Federal Highway, so most of my drive home is at fast highway speed. The rear end felt firmer and the whole car was a dream to drive home, not that it has ever been bad to drive, but in a recent trip to Victoria on dirt roads I felt there was a dangerous drift and sag in the rear end and so I took things very sedately. Well my Territory now proudly has a Gentech sticker next to the FordForum.com.au sticker on the rear window, and I am wrapped I finally found somewhere that will properly care for my Territory. Sounds like a great place to go, I'm glad the Forum sponsors are getting a good rap from their customers. I dont think alot of places provide a courtesy car but these guys have provided you with magnificent service and still managed to save you money over Ford. Just what we all need.
OHH and by the way, does the diff bush affect all BA/BF or is it just the Territory??? Though I have heard of it being a problem before and would hate to see the price Ford would charge.

My understanding its all BA/BF Falcons as well. The guys at Gentech are now on alert for this problem in all the BA's and BF's they work on to ensure the cars get prompt attention when required.
With my current experience with Canberra Ford dealers both the cost and the mess they could make in fixing this bush issue scares me. However I used to get my Territory serviced by the dealer in Campbelltown and they were fantastic. |
