hey,
just wondering if its possible to put a pod filter on a carby engine? how would adapt a pipe to the carb, would you need an adaptor plate or would you use a gas hat or something? anyone got any ideas? Tom

There is a ram type air setup available,
An enclosed "hat" goes over the carb, and from there two ducts run down to scoops positioned under the front bumper, this provides cool "ram air" to the carb. But the filter is still in its normal place over the carb inside the "hat box" A pod filter would be of no benefit whatsoever, and actually be a hindrance, you cant get much better flow than a 4" or 5"x14-16" K&N type carb filter element.. |

4 barrel holley 465.
It was on the car when I bought it.. These are pre adr27,so a filter like this is perfectly fine, and certainly the easiest way to do it,you will find something for the type of carb you run at rare spares or similar, even try ebay.. |

If you want to run a pod filter, Supercheap sells a carbi adaptor, that fits over the carbi and give a 90 degree angle. It has a hole down the bend to screw into the carbi (where the normal bolt would run), etc, etc... worth a look if you want to run a pod filter/pipe setup...

Pod filters are useless on older motors and look crap. This is much better.

Here is my motor before I put the holley on.
It's a 9" redline filter it made a massive difference and it made an even bigger difference when I got rid of the paper filter and put the K&N one on.

The bend to make a pod will stick up just as high.
Use a drop base air cleaner, find out what other cars out there used this carb,LC torana's possibly etc,and you will find one that fits.. |

Mate i use an offset cleaner , not drop base , basically the carby hole is not central. Which means you turn filter to be predominantly towards the rear thus fixing clearance issue. They come in 10" and you can get KN filter if wanted. Initially used a Ram Filter but they are a crock. Cheers bos
